I have hens and a rooster right now, so I'll be trying to hatch those. My rooster is a Jersey Giant. My hens are Jersey Giant, Welsummer, and Easter Egger.

sounds to me like a wonderful cross that will yield beautiful feathers and plenty of eggs

It is a great idea to start with homegrown or local eggs. You will have the highest percentage of success that way. Are you Jersey Giants black?

Can someone comment on Brinsea Octagon 20 vs 40 incubators? I was about to buy the 40 on Amazon when I read reviews that its better to buy 2 x Octagon 20 vs an Ocatgon 40 because the lid is heavy and you have to lift it both hands and put it on the side to do anything inside the incubator and that way you lose humidity and temperature really quickly. That makes sense but what if one had a humidity pump attached? That way there would be no need to open the lid. Am I making any sense?

Any other advantages of 2 x Octagon 20 vs 1 Octagon 40?

I have an octagon 40Ex Advance. It works flawlessly!

I have the humidity pump and auto turner.

Thats what I was thinking that if there is a humidity pump and auto turner, there is no need to open.

I have hand turned mine before--the motor on the turner went out and was replaced on warranty. The lid is not that heavy and humidity seems to recover quickly.

I would get the 40--since bigger is often needed and two 20s will take up more space with turners.
