Thought I best makeup for the sad news on shipped items..possibly eggs! Hope this helps. Too cute!

I have had 4 shipments of eggs arrive at my house in the past 48 hrs. 2 were perfect. One chicken egg box had one broken egg. The button quail eggs were demolished even though the box was in perfect condition, lots of packing peanuts, eggs in tissue inside a quail egg carton. The most likely explanation would be really vigorous shaking. The seller left too much of an airspace between the eggs and the carton they were in, so despite being wrapped in a bit of tissue the air gap allowed too much movement of the eggs. I mean, the insides would still have probably been scrambled, but the shells may have been intact if they had put more packing in there. I have another box of them coming tomorrow or so, I hope they don't end up in the same hands... I emailed the seller to let them know that they really need to fill that airgap.

Thanks every one about the fertile egg question. I didn't think so either but it was just not a solid dot and was hoping so.

Hygrometer question?

I was calibrating my hydrometer and after 5 hours it showed 75%. as another hour went by it is now down to 68%. I have tested the same one twice. I have noticed that as the water comes to the top of the salt the % drops. Is this normal or no matter what it should stay at 75%. I used 1/2 cup salt to 1/4 cup water.

So very excited to join again this year. Didn't think I was going to make it since I'm driving out to my parents house the day after Easter. But my little sister called to my rescue and asked if I had something hatching to bring out to her. So the egg hunt begins so I can get me some eggs by Friday to set. Already pulled out the incubator. Sad I won't be setting 42 like last year, but hoping to set a least 24 in hopes of getting 15-18 chicks to take with me. Of course I will most likely bring some home. HeHe..

I'll Post my numbers, and mine will get set Friday Night, or early Saturday morning. I have Girl Scout Cookie booths all day on Saturday so won't be home at Noon, but it will be close enough...Right?

Ekkkk,,,, I'm going to have fuzzy butts...

Now I did it. Ordered a assortment of purebreeds. Wonder what eggs they will send me. Hoping some Moderns, but definitely some breeds I don't already have.

Plus my Cemani have shipped, so they will be here in time.

Love my USPS lady. She keeps the boxes with eggs beside her in the vehicle to monitor. She also make a point of honking the horn when she delivers, so I know they eggs are in the mail box.

UPS guy is great but we are at the end of his route and sometimes don't get our delivery until 8pm. I would hate to have the eggs dumping around in his truck for 12+ hrs.

Our Fedex guy is pretty cool about his deliveries. He will come through two separate gates to make sure that our package is left under a covered area (porch). But again, his route is irregular. So he could show up at anytime during the day.

well i candled duck eggs and i can see defenitely 5 are fertile out of a full bator so not the best but its ok they didnt really have Pool Time but hopefully chicken eggs are better
Also my goat might be getting ready to kid. the babies are getting into position so maybe by tomorrow
