I have a baby.

A Marans mix. It looks blue, but still wet..sometimes that black fakes me out with these old eyes. I now have an OE starting to zip. Oh dear..my night is going to be sleepless. I can tell one of the others is more pipped, so, it may start to zip soon. I will be hearing new chick screams throughout the night. Sooo happy to see that one of the BBS silkie eggs pipped..a tiny pip. :D

I have another one out. :) :)

Someone on here asked what a zip looked like..here is a photo of the first chick almost out. Then the nice clean shell.

From each side...

The shell... looks good. Baby is doing well..both are..the second one is an OE..and another is
zipping. It's Welsummer mix, nice speckled egg.

Our roo is a welsummer, our hens vary. Is the welsummer characteristics dominant? Will we be able to tell pullets vs cockerels at an early age?? Sorry, new to this breeding/hatching experience.

OMG so I turned the eggs fat end outwards in my Brinsea Mini Advance, so with my very bright LED flashlight, I can see almost through the to third of the egg (and I can distinctly see the air cell).

I saw a tiny shadow poking upwards in the bottom of an air cell!!!! I think they're hatching!!!!

I think 2 of my eggs set to hatch on Easter have died. :-( However, I set 2 out 3 days later and they're rocking! Is it normal for eggs to be rocking this early?? It's day 15...

I have my first pip! It was from an egg that I'd seen wiggling since yesterday. It pipped in the middle of the shell... a lot lower than where the air cell is... I hope it comes out okay

Congrats! I hope you got some sleep afterwards. I just woke up and my 2 pips from 5:00 PM have not progressed yet. Its bee 10 hrs and I am getting worried. Humidity is down to 60%. I better run to Walgreens and get some straws. Can't find any at home and don't want to wake up DF, she is already mad that I have the first brooder set-up in the dining room.

Said I wasn't gonna help any hatch. Selfish reasons for one. Don't want to get myself upset in case of horrid outcomes. But 24 yr old daughter insisted, (bolstered my courage) Chick hadn't zipped the shell all the way around and one leg was hanging out. He couldn't push out of the shell that way. Shell came off easy and clean. Chick seems fine. Now that's the last time I assist. Unless it's another one with it's leg hanging out. Or something like that.

I have the still air little giant incubator digital reading. I threw out 9 infertile chick eggs and now have a lot of room in the incubator. For lock down I want to spread out the ducky eggs, but I don't know where the "cold spots" are. Please I'd love to know where y'all think I could put the eggs so they will get pretty even heat. Thank you!
