These little chicks are by far my favorite that I have ever hatched! They are sooooo sweet!

Thanks to all who joined in watching the chick cam!

Everyone should be allowed at least one rooster...

I wish you could have roosters too!

I know right? If I could move....again..I would. I'm just getting too darn old. We are place, right here, forever I do believe. We like where we are, nice big corner lot, have my chickens back there, and some babies growing out. I am a happy chicken camper.

No ace..those babies above are the cutest! Not! lol...funny little critters, I don't even know what they are.

Okay, so I'm going to be doing something CRAZY for this year's Easter Hatch-A-Long:

There aren't any grocery stores in my area that sell the fertile chicken eggs by the dozen. Whole Foods, however, will sell me fertile chicken eggs if I commit to at least ****** dozen. They will ship ****** dozen "fertile" chicken eggs to my local store. It comes out to roughly $3.60/dozen.

SO... I will be setting ALL ******* DOZEN Whole Foods "fertile" eggs (typically for eating), as a grand experiment, among my own incubators combined with my SO's incubators...

That's ******** eggs.

I have many, many people offering to buy the chicks (if any hatch) when the time comes at $1.00 - $2.00 each, so I'm not too worried about excess chicks. I'm more curious to see how many of them will actually hatch...

So stay tuned...

I don't think I could ever commit to that many eggs. Not enough counter space. I the most I've done was 63 eggs during my first Easter HAL.
It's a gamble; I've hatched grocery store (Trader Joes) eggs twice. 1st try was 1 out of 10, eggs were 8 days old. The 2nd time I hatched 11 out of 12 and the eggs were 5 days old. Both times were out of the fridge section in the store.- check out the Trader Joes thread https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...cery-store-egg-hatching-club-are-you-a-member

It's pretty neat to see little chicks hatching from eggs that were supposed to be breakfast.
I can never seem to find a health food store that has fertile eggs. We don't have Trader Joe's here.
Quote:Feminine napkins?!
Those are a whole can of worms all packaged up nice and pretty.
First they include chemicals that are banned from a baby's disposable diaper for health risks. Second they carry all kinds of toxic shock warnings. Those two things make them end up on my do not buy list. I'm not against all use and toss products but I will have to find a different alternative for replacing the humidity pads in my incubator. Still it does bring a few ideas to mind. Maybe a cotton infant diaper or a thick wash cloth could be reusable. Still I have to wonder how long those items should be in the incubator and lockdown is a long time.
It's been my experience that wash clothes don't work too well. I may have to try again since we just got some new ones.
Last year, I hatched almost two dozen eggs, scattered through four different hatches. I desperately wanted a rooster, and the final gatch I ended up with two lol. I had a ton of extra pullets.
Now you tell me! I need a roo so they'll all be pullets, great. :D

I don't know how many they committed to but I can imagine it was a ton lol.

63 eggs was a lot for you also, did you do it in one or 2 incubators?

I cant remember how many eggs was my largest amount set (I think it was 87 or 89) I remember it was a lot and double stacked lol
Here is a picture of my jam packed incubator last year.
