The 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I put my "test" hatch in lockdown earlier, and I'm afraid the bator has been running cool the whole time. I have a still air LG incubator with automatic turner. This is my second hatch in it. I ran it a few days with two thermometers, then added eggs. Thermometer on top of eggs read 102, and thermometer on top if turner read 96. Figured that put me in a good place. For lockdown I took out the turner and put eggs on their sides. Thermometer in top of eggs is reading 96, and thermometer on bator floor is also reading 96. I've nudged it twice over the last 7 hours, but still stuck at 96. :(

Unfortunately I won't be able to participate. I am not getting the eggs needed for hatching yet. The weather here has put me behind schedule. Maybe next time.

Somebody send her eggs, quick! There's still time ! What kind do you want?!

Hatch rates will be lower for eggs older than 2 weeks. Shipped eggs should not be older than 7 days because of the added stress from shipping.

Older eggs will still hatch--I would not set eggs older than 30 days and if I did I would watch them very closely for rotting.

Thank you ron for this information!

Time to start planning where I'm gonna brood this batch because I usually stagger hatches so I'm only using one tote at a time.... hmmm.. this is gonna take some elbow grease and maybe a couple volunteers but I think I have half a plan formed. Wish DH would build me a brooder, maybe I can talk my enabler into giving him a hand ;) wish me luck.

Good Morning!
