I found a mystery egg! So of course it's going in the incubator along with the banty egg I got this morning. There's only two possible sources of the mystery egg. It's either my light brahma or my dark cornish. Neither have laid for me before so it's exciting either way. All the other hens lay white, blue or green eggs.

Edit: I forgot about my cochin. Lol She's another possibility

Oh and this brings my final total to 21 eggs for the HAL.

Ron, can you recommend a safer chick warming product? I'm so worried about burning down my house with the heat lamps!
Do the heat plates work for new just hatched chicks? Can you use just those for heat, or do you also need a lamp?

I've got 2 of the premier hot plates and love them! I set the front so it's higher than the back and have it agains the back of the brooder. Day olds can nestle under the lower end, older chicks can be comfortable mid to front end. I don't have a light added, but they're near a window in the living room. Seems to work fine. Have chicks from 3 hatches sharing one in a big tote. About time to move the oldest out (3-4 weeks)

I have a Brinsea Spot Check and like it, too. But I much prefer my 220 lumens flashlight to the Brinsea Ovaview candlers (I have both reg. and high intensity), maybe because the switch broke. I use a piece of foam pipe insulation on the flashlight to gently cradle the egg. My family "borrowed" my Ovaviews to use as a flashlight all the time. LOL
