I don't know yet. I looked up on Craig's what was available. I am waiting for her response to a question of mine. There is supposed to be a hatch of both breeds this weekend. If I reserve all, I get them for a good price. Which is a better option for me with my bad incubation experience. But I have to hear back from her.

it would be cool if you knew her...it's a small world after all!

Im pretty sure its her she is the only one I have ever known in our area who advertises Wheaten Ameraucana and Welsummers, She also has Lemon Cuckoo Orpingtons, Silver Spangled Appenzeller Spitzhauben and Blue Laced Red Wyandottes. Her birds are nice. I have gotten hatching eggs from her a few times.

Against my own better judgment I finally decided to candle, day 10 for me. And just as my bad luck would have it I DROPPED AN EGG right on top of another egg.

I cracked it pretty badly. I'm going to try to seal it up with candle wax and then keep a close eye on it. It might be best if I just pull it and just let the egg go so I don't end up with a mess later. I didn't even really want to candle tonight either just had nothing better to do.
I could be wrong (about who), but I believe that it was ladycat that wraps her iffy eggs in paper towel so if something happens before she takes them out it saves the mess. She wraps them and sets them in the space on the side of the turner. The towel allows them to be upright. I had seen a pic posted of someones bator and they said why they did this. Sorry if it was someone else.

Early on I was switching thermometers and accidentally dropped one on and egg and put a hole clear through it

I'm out. A friend of DH was over with his kids this weekend and they were not adequately supervised (I was not home) and one of them turned up the incubator to 120 and cooked everything inside. I am super bummed because there were 13 project eggs in there that it took me 2 weeks to collect.

That is terrible!

They should have been not allowed near the incubator!

I hope they were scolded with vigor

My Chicken Friend, this happened to me with my own daughter. She is 4 yrs old and she thought she was helping me. :) She turned the temp all the way up and cooked my first 11 eggs ever. I know the loss. :hugs

Yep! That must be her. :)

Incubator Wars!
Breaking News Update
After an exhaustive search the cause of Amber's panic is still undetermined. Upon initial exam the seven remain eggs seemed cold but intact. A closer inspection and candling revealed that five of the eggs may have been damaged by the cold. It is not known how long the eggs were cold. Candling revealed veining but a lack of activity. Hoping beyond hope the Judge has decided to allow the eggs to remain in Contestant #2's incubator for the remainder of the hatch. After several failed attempts to coax young Amber back into her nest, it was decided to setup a nest-box/brooder-box in the house for a couple days. And to reward her efforts up to this point 12 1-week-old chicks were slipped under her only moments ago. Time will tell if she excepts the chicks as her own, but as of this HAL and incubator wars Amber has gracefully bowed out.

We started with three, but now there are two. Contestant #1 and Contestant #2 will continue on in the head to head competition. Let us hope that no more chaos plague this hatch.
Not sure how cold it is there but, my silly broody hen had moved off her nest and onto another one. It was when the ice storms were moving through and the high temp was in the 30's. My daughter had been home sick and I had not checked on her most of the day. She usually got off the nest in the morning when I opened the coop door to eat and stretch her legs. If another hen was in her box laying when she wanted to get back in, she just picked another box. I had to check her everyday and make sure she was back in the right place (often). Anyway, all day freezing temps, and still got three to hatch. I think only 4 under her were fertile.(I had placed some older hen eggs just to see, I don't think they like the rooster, theirs are never fertile).

And "scolded with vigor" they should be. I can't stand people bringing their unruly children over to run wild. It amazes me how many of them won't bring their kids back because we have rules here. Wonder what kind of behavior goes on in their own house???
