I am so nervous. First time incubator hatch, others were broody. Out of 95 set Placed 63 in lock down (between two bators). Out of 38 shipped eggs 33 made it to lock down. With the wonderful extras I got, I still have more than paid for... thanks! Now for the hatch, which makes me nervous. Out of my back yard mix 30 made it to lock down. All but two were clears. I had my doubts about the rooster. He likes his ladies but they don't all like him. Only had three quitters of my mix. so pretty good.

I have my humidity up to 63 Hova-bator and 68 in the still air. It supposed to start raining here during the hatch so between high house humidity (Louisiana) and hatching, I hope that works for me. I don't want to shrink wrap any.

Not counting my chickens....

63/95 = 63% over all

33/38 = 87% shipped eggs

30/57 = 52% back yard mix (unsure of fertility anyway)

So far pretty happy, just praying about the hatch.

Ok, so I've asked this in several other of my subscribed threads, but I'm trying to get as many experienced opinions as possible. I've got a first-time broody, and I'm a first-time broody mom.

Option A: I have some eggs for Thursday's lockdown that I'm not super attached to, so I'm thinking about giving her 4-5 eggs (some are actually hers) if she sticks with it. She seems pretty determined.

Option B: give her golf balls to sit on and slip Easter chicks under her in the night.

Option C: let her set on the eggs she gets tomorrow and have the full experience.

I don't really want to break her. She was on our "flock thinning" list, so this might be my only chance with her.

Picture, for science.

I'd go option A and if she is a good mama hen, take her off the thinning list, unless you have plenty of good broody hens.

Reminder:

When your hatch is over please post in this thread how many chicks you hatched, so we can get the numbers recorded!

Thanks to Mike for recording all these numbers!

I'm happy I have a broody and don't have to worry about lock down, temperature, humidity, etc.

Yes you are! All is good there when they stay put. Will be watching for those new broody mama's and babies.

Big construction day, here. This was my coop set up:

400

Pretty simple, but it worked well enough until I got the grumpy broody. So I did some modifications. I'll post a pic of that later, after she's settled in. She kept her booty on the box despite all my fiddling and hammering, so I think she's pretty determined. I'll put some HAL eggs under her later today.

Is anyone else having trouble accessing the chart with the number of eggs set? I see the first couple of dozen names and numbers, but I can't scroll down to see mine.......

NEVERMIND! I figured it out!
