I have an Easter chick after all!! I was not in the HAL because my broodies decided too late to start. Hatch day for me is supposed to be Tuesday but I had an Easter surprise. I just hope she gets some friends soon.

Shipped Eggs for the Hatch-A-Long.
38 from Alohachickens. 26 hatched.
15 from Ladycat. 15 hatched (100%)
14 from bamadude. 8 hatched
8 from learycow. 2 hatched

Only two others from bamadude were fertile one died early in formation and the other died trying to hatch just went too long.

I can't remember the number of ferrules on the rest except learycow. The only two that hatched were the only fertile eggs.

Over all this is the best hatch of shipped eggs I've ever had. Thanks to all who got me the eggs. Very happy about the hatch numbers.

Final Count: 15 Hatched

20 eggs set, 19 made it to lockdown. Of those, 1 died while zipping, 3 never pipped. 2 of the hatched were assisted, and the last to hatch is doing a bit poorly, but I'm still rooting for her. Which brings me to a question:

Does this look like it will work? The little one has dried blood over her, and the others keep pecking at it. One of them even dragged her across the brooder by the wing, would not let her go. The box is made of plastic canvas, no top. She's got a little milk cap with water in with her, and food sprinkled on the ground. The thermometer will come out once I've checked temperature. I could leave her in the incubator, but it's pretty disgusting right now.

Personally I would take the other's out and move them to the brooder and give these guys time to see if they strengthen up. (Then again, I remove my chicks as they hatch, cause I'm one of THOSE people...lol)
X's. The others will do fine out..those two little weak ones could get hurt with them stomping on them.

Day 21! Hatch Day!
Welcome back, Folks! It has been a long three days since lockdown has begun. There has been no action from the eggs for the majority of the time, and the anticipation has been almost unbearable. This morning brought some excitement followed instantaneously by sadness. As Contestant #1 awoke to find the first pip of the hatch. The chick pipped at about the midpoint of the egg. There was oozing and bubbles coming from the pip hole. It was a valiant struggle for the determined chick, but unfortunately did not make it. Several hours have passed and there has been more excitement.

We now bring you current moment by moment updates. Contestant #1 is sitting on incubator watch with 6 pips currently in progress. Oh, we have action now! Zip, zip, zipping! The first chick is zipping. Ooo, it's almost out. Look at the adorable little soggy chick. Another zip! Come on little one, you can do it! It's out, yeah! Two chicks have hatched. Such soggy little things. Now, for a brief word from our sponsors...not. lol. Ooo...ooo...ooo... number three is almost here! Absolutely wonderful!

Oh the awesomeness! As we are typing this number four has broken out of it's shell and number 5 almost all the way zipped. So, far this is a good hatch for Contestant #1!

Contestant #2 is still waiting for their first pip along with the two eggs from former Contestant #3.

Hang on to your boots, folks! This beautiful Resurrection Sunday is far from over!

This is great seeing all of these Easter Babies! Congratulations everyone!

Happy Easter from our Hatch-A-Long Chicks.

I tried to do something like this in a cute little egg easter basket today and my darn chicks would have nothing of it (and they are fast little....things.....lol) These are the most rambunctious chicks I have ever hatched. The last hatch I could pose them in my son's little people buildings and different set props and got the cutest pics...not with these guys.....lol

Good job, and good lil chicks...lol

She ran them around the block first so they would settle down.
