HOW EGGCITING

I've been stalking some boards around here and see people talking about 90-100% hatches. Is this really possible? Is it just luck or tricks that people pick up along the way?

A lot of times they are talking about fertile hatch rates--the eggs that go into lockdown and then those that hatch. It is rare to get 100% for a total hatch rate.

75% is more of an average for not shipped eggs--closer to 50% is good for shipped eggs. If hatch rates are lower than this on average, then it is time to check the equipment for faults. The most common culprit is temperature not in the correct range.

I get 90-95% hatches with my own eggs. I can't say I have ever had 100% (can't think of any, at least...) I have even gotten 90% from shipped eggs. I think it has a lot to do with incubator cleanliness, temperature stability, and of course flock health/fertility. Once I got my ova easy 380 with the humidity pump, I just set eggs and forget about them... no skill involved. In the summer months here I do dry incubation... that is, no extra humidity added until they go into the hatcher. I hatch in a hovaBator 1588 Genesis to keep the cabinet clean, I wash and sanitize the cabinet once a month anyway and the hatcherBator every hatch.

Yeah this could be very true. If they are saying 100% hatch from only the eggs at lockdown, that's not uncommon for me. If they are saying 100% hatch meaning from every single egg that was set... I don't know I have had that happen.

@Ur-ur-ur-urrr
what was yours? 100% from % of fertile eggs, lockdown, or all eggs total?
