The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

I have not found anything that lets me see my Black Copper Maran eggs very good.

I use a high lumens flashlight but still can't usually see in well. By weeks 2-3 I just go by darkness in the egg. I can usually tell clears by then.

And speaking of BCM, all 17 of my eggs that went in to lockdown hatched! The last of them overnight. My experiment with the baskets worked out pretty good. I was able to reliably band all but 2. I woke up this morning and there were 2 chicks in each basket when there were 3 eggs in one basket and one in the other lol. Those 2 got banded a totally different color until they grow. Maybe I'll be able to tell later. Only 2 of all the eggs I set were clear :) I'll have to get some pictures up later. My brooder is overflowing with bouncy little poults and little black balls of fluff :)

I totally want in. And I have enough time to make sure my mama hen should be laying by then! Woohoo!

The other chicks may not like her but Mr. Moose seems to have taken quite a shine to that sweet little face. My one and only black baby and she is soo much smaller than the others, they beat her up good last night but she was too afraid to be left. Every time I would put her down and walk away she would cry and try to push through the bars in the cat carrier. I look on BYC to see what I could do and read a few threads about putting a stuffy in the cage with her. SURE enough it worked.... I was shocked, my 5 year old gave her his stuffed moose and she is just as happy as happy could be, NOW, she cries when I take her away from the moose. This should be good when she grows up she is gonna think she is a stuffed moose.

So i got a Little Giant incubator off the local swap shop, with egg turner, but no fan. So i took the fan out of my DIY styro bator, cause my chickens ate a hole in the side of it, and put it in the LG. Been running it for about 5 days now and the temp seems to be pretty steady so i put 6 eggs in this morning for a test run before the EHAL.

here's hoping it does a great job.
