The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

Ron, I didn't weigh it. Is there a certain weight that's acceptable to set? This one was pretty little, I was just scared if i set it that the chick wouldn't have room etc. I'm going to keep a close eye on her and maybe set some in a few weeks if they look ok.
The ideal size is a large egg. Med. to large works fine!

I have hatched some shipped eggs that were in the 25G size, Which is called peewee. They did have some problems hatching but still hatched.

If the eggs are 45G I would set them!(Large fowl eggs). The eggs were LF orpingtons.

My phone isn't letting me quote others

My incubator is a Reptibator that I use for hatching geckos, though with some modifications. I made it so that a Little Giant turner would fit in it, and I use a small USB powered computer fan to convert it from a still air to a moving air incubator. Also have an assortment of sponges for managing humidity, but they go in as needed. Also have backup thermometers and a hygrometer, but I use the kind with the probes so that I don't have to try to fit them in as well!

Also, I agree on the Ebay bidding method mentioned above. If it's not a buy-it-now auction, then just wait until the final minute to place your highest bid. It can't be seen so even if someone else tried bidding against you last minute, they won't know how high to bid to beat you and they might lose their chance.

LOL Love the reflection of the dog. Looks like it's guarding the eggs.

We had just brought the incubator into the house and he feels the need to protect us from new inanimate objects. Haha.
actually it looks like the dog (Pug??) hatched in the incubator.  Must have been a big egg.

Pug eggs!! I need those in my life! Though I don't think I can handle more than one pug. They are such fun goofy dogs though :)

My mainstays are 2 Brinsea Octogon 20 Advanced and a backup eco 20 for when I get over zealous. I'm scared of what might happen with a cabinet incubator. @KYTinpusher I would get myself in big trouble with a cooler like you are working on. I have little to no self control about peeps.

@StarMeKritten
What a beautiful little incubator! So it holds 5 dozen, that's 60 eggs. If 90% hatch that would be 54 chicks every 21 days. If you only hatched once a month, you could have 648 chicks/year!!!! :jumpy  and that's why I can't have a cabinet. It looks very, very tempting though.

Now that you've done the numbers for me, that's absolutely terrifying. But it gets even worse! This thing holds 10 dozen eggs with the turners I have in there right now. I still have room for 1-2 more turners should I need to increase that. I'm going to hold off on that for a while though...

Gooooooooooood morning folks!
Today is my birthday and I fully intend on buying myself chicken related :lau

I decided not to set my two turkey eggs for the hatchalong, and wait until I can set more. Luckily, I am getting tons of chicken eggs so I still will have lots to let by next weekend.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

In breeds that I know will eventually lay a 57-60g egg, I usually wait until their eggs are 50g to start setting them.
