The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

:clap  What great packaging!!!

I'm very impressed with the packaging :D I have not ordered from these before so was not sure what to expect. I'm going to email the lovely lady I spoke to on the phone when I ordered to thank her for getting them to me safely.

This morning I set six eggs under a broody hen. My official set count is six. Thank you.

:clap

Good luck :thumbsup

I'm hoping to have another broody this year :fl I have mainly polish though which are not in general a broody breed. I struck lucky last summer when one decided she was going to give it a whirl.

Sad news. Candled my eggs and day 8 and out of 31 eggs I culled 9. Some were clears and some had blood rings. Most likely due to the time the incubator ran up to 118F and climbing before I fixed the jammed thermostat wafer. . and maybe also because they are only turned twice daily right now as I have some eggs hatching (staggered hatch). They'll go back on the egg turner as soon as the other hatch is complete (this hatch had 10 eggs and none had been culled).

Unlike the NY HAL, you are not trying to hatch at a particular time, just a general time frame. Setting within two days of Saturday, March 5, allows for those that get shipped eggs (not an exact delivery time is possible) or those that would be out of town/family obligations/etc for Easter could join in. Keeping an "end date: just allows the "official hatchalong participant" numbers to be calculated for the contest of number of eggs hatched. Hatching together and sharing is what the Easter HAL is about!

The cover is there because that space next to the motor is too hot....maybe someone here has successfully used it but I know the old ones didn't have the cover and the company put it on the current version. I would say if you could use, they wouldn't have bothered. I would recommend leaving that space alone and just hatch another batch after the HAL batch!

The NYD HAL had the same rules for setting the eggs, + or - 2 days from the set date.

The rest of the post is right on!

FYI After the Easter HAL we have begun the April HAL thread

Once you have set all of your eggs, please post in this hatch-a-long thread how many total eggs you set.

Pictures are wonderful, as we all enjoy seeing eggs in the incubator, but please make it easy on Mike and post the total number set too. He has a lot of posts to record!

If you didn't set any eggs, please post that too, so we don't have to try to track you down.
