The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

I'm pretty sure @WVduckchick did, and there was someone else but the username slipped my mind.

I did have one on the side of a quail egg. At lockdown, I saw alot more clear area than I hoped, so I pulled it. Left it out for 2 days, but opened it today and it was well formed. I'm honestly not sure if I killed it by pulling it, or if it had quit before, but I expected a difficult time for it. The air cell was fairly large comparatively.

Candle results 3/12!!!!!

11/12 live and nice veins, #12 is a clear.... But I left it in, cuz one can never be too sure.

On 3+ of them... I SAW IT MOVE... No joke!!! 2 other people did too, and I wasn't holding the egg (had it on a stand thing) so I wasn't shaking it!

It was moving back and forth slightly, and getting darker and lighter.. That was so amazing... One of Jace's moved, and the other has good veins.... Ohh, I lost track of how many moved, and I suspect if I had more time I woulda seen close to all of them move!!

Oh oh oh oh oh this is fantastic!!!!

I don't pull quail eggs anymore.
I thought my last batch looked bad at candling....
Ended up with 14/16 hatch and one was a fart egg I shouldn't have set.

Went to TSC today finally and saw the chicks and there were a LOT of reds (well only one bin actually labeled "rhode island red", one labeled bantams but empty and one jersey giant bin, the rest were labeled "pullets" supposedly assorted breeds but looked entirely reds to me) and anyway, all in large metal feed troughs, ALL heat lamp clamped to side. Babies crammed like sardines in there. Felt sorry for them. But of course MHP is too expensive and takes up too much room to be efficient for those babies, got 6 feed troughs in a gated area. Felt so bad though.

Out of 12 eggs set, 10 are still going strong as of Thursday. I might either candle today or tomorrow. Today is day 9 for my eggs. They are from my flock. My roo is RIR. I'm going to have RIR/EE cross, pure RIR, and Barred Rock/RIR cross (which I recently learned were black sexlink). I'm so excited!:weee
