The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

It's 2am and my chicken coop is in smolderes. Fire killed 16 3 week olds. I'm depressed now. NEVER PUT A HEATLAMP , even 1 with emergency shut off, in a coop.

Oh my goodness! Could you have any more bad luck? I'm so sorry!

So very sorry to hear this. You have had enough trouble for a lifetime in one week. I hope you are able to put things right soon and that luck decides to come your way.

oh no! I'm so sorry.

Oh that's terrible, I'm so sorry you lost so many birds :hugs

I am so sorry. When you are ready to start again I can send you some EE/OE and Sapphire/OE eggs.

Wow nothing I can imagine worse than what I just read here :he

OH my goodness!!!! I am SO sorry!! :hit :hit :hit :hugs :hugs :hugs

:hugs Sorry to hear that :hugs

Oh no! I'm so so sorry for your loss :( that would be such a horrible thing to be dealing with right now.

Noooo!!!  How Awful for you!!!:hit  I am SO sorry for your loss!!! :hugs

Sorry for your loss.

Thanks you for sharing about the light. I was thinking of using the heatlamp I bought as my neighbor may need her heating plate back for Easter. Not anymore sorry about your disaster. Awful

Omg I'm so sorry. If probably be sitting out next to the smoldering coop bawling.

That's awful. :hugs
I'm so glad that your adult birds are okay. It is best to check the birds as soon as possible. If there are any burns, you don't need to put ointment unless the skin has broken. (Plain Neosporin WITHOUT analgesic) If blisters form, don't pop them. (separate so the others don't peck). Flush with cool water if it is noticed promptly, other than that just watch for signs of infection and treat with antibiotics if that pops up.

65% is great, leave it alone.

Yes, I would clean the eggs off.  I have found that eggs get broken when another hen squeezes into the nest to lay and the broody is trying to hold tight to her eggs.
Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry.

Agree here.  Vetericyn might help too as it's a wound healing spray.

:hugs

I am so sorry!

Brooder plates are much safer.

I'm so sorry to hear about your chicks and coop!!

Oh no!! I am so sorry for your loss, both the birds and coop,

In light of this tragic news I want to get rid of the heat lamp that is in the duck part of the brooder coop. They will not use the Mama heat pad like the chicks do so I put a lamp in. Now they are 5 weeks old and very tall, with downy feathers still. What should I use?? When can they be without a heat source?

Oh my goodness!  Could you have any more bad luck?  I'm so sorry!  :hugs

I am so sorry. How horrible.

:hugs I am so sorry that happened to you. I can not even imagine how upset you are.

Thank you all. I hope I got everyone. I did spend about an hour crying last night until my husband made me go to bed. I was so exhausted but still find more tears. I hate this.

I know many were destined to be culled after a few years for meat but not like this. Never like this. And I've got to keep a smiling face for the kids who we don't want to know until we get it cleaned up. Not easy. Prayers and hugs are always welcome guys.

So very, very sorry.

Yeah, it's about a zillion times harder with kids, isn't it? *sigh*

We will be praying for you family.

Didn't get around to candling until now.

Tossed a few, mostly blanks. There are several more that I *think* have quit, but I'm way too nervous to take them out! So my current count is 30 still incubating for the Hatch-a-Long.

I also have 5 more that were stuck in there a few days later after a messy egg (eating?) business in the former broody nest (but too late to count for HAL); she also still has a few under her. Chickens! *sigh*
