I can't even tell you how cute my oldest son (6yrs) is right now - he is SO excited for hatch day since it's also my birthday. He has an easel with white board in his room and he told me: "MOM!!! I have a countdown calendar...I'm marking my days till the chicks hatch and your birthday!!" And every morning right now, he gives me an update - "Only 6 more wake ups till hatch day AND your birthday mom!!!" I love his excitement - he's such a love and has such a big heart.

Does this look like yolk absorption or messy chick disease? Any help would be great. Hatched this morning about 9am and it's almost 1 and still swollen.

It looks normal. Make sure the vent is open and if you see a raw spot, use a wound medicine that does not have a pain killer. Triple antibiotic works.

I use vetericyn wound spray.

Thank you. He looks a little more swollen than any others I've had hatch. His vent is open and I don't see any raw spots. Just looks very stretched on his belly. And his navel cord is a little red but not bleeding.

It will finish absorbing by tomorrow and you will have a hard time figuring out which chick had that.

I am planning to hatch Pekin Ducks after this HAL I am wondering if Pekin duck eggs will fit in the hova bator standard egg turner or will I need the goose turner?

[COLOR=008080]For those who were interested in what the Wheaten Ameraucana x White Leghorn (SBEL) chicks looked like - @pjnbill22 [/COLOR] [COLOR=008080]here are a few pictures of the 5 chicks that hatched out last Thursday/Friday. They seem to be all white with a few random grey/black spots, Pea Combs, some poofy cheeks(?). I will take updated pictures each week as they get older. [/COLOR]

Welp, 2 more eggs today. Looks like the same 2 are laying. Hope the other 6 pick up production soon! In other news, I'm seeing We The Kings on Friday! also it snowed last night. It's melting fast though
