The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

@Cynthia12

Most of the vitamins for poultry will have D in them. You can also supplement with calf manna to help with egg shell quality. I have used both of those.

A quick search on Amazon showed a mana pro product that is a supplement just for poultry that is used like calf mana--just tossed out, mixed with feed or added to scratch.

During times of stress, like heat, cold, lots of bad weather, it is a good idea to give them something once a week.

Oh good, I use Calf Manna, have for a couple of yrs. now. I do use it more in the winter than the warmer months. So, vitamins for my hens. She hasn't laid another egg yet, but it's only been two days. She is acting like normal. Getting right in there for the manna and BOSS, and I throw bread. They love it all..oh, and a can of corn every now and again. And, scratch. No, they don't get all of this in one day. I take turns with it. Thanks ron, going to some vitamins. Haven't had to worry over a chicken in a while. Will be good to have on hand. Chicks yes, I use the Poly V. for them.

And don't forget yourself, Cynthia. It IS an enormous undertaking to welcome each and everyone of us.

No other place on the net I've been to has been as welcoming as everyone in this place.

Thank you so much! :)

@Sally Sunshine Just wondering about those pups..did you sell them all? Are they all in different homes? I can't remember how long it's been.

Should I be worried about a hen that laid an egg that is sorta cone shaped with a really skinny end and ripples in the shell?

I get those sometimes. I think the hen just wasn't having a good day when that happened. After all, laying eggs every day isn't easy.

Some hens lay skinny shaped eggs, others lay round, and it can vary according to the day.

If the shell is extra thin, however, then it might be an issue. Otherwise, I don't think you have to worry about it.
