The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

Okay. What do I put in their water? I heard that Gatorade works but I'm not to sure.
I don't know about gatorade never had to give it but there is chicken electrolyte you could buy from the animal store but i'm sure someone here knows how to make a homemade one. .All i have ever given is the apple cider vinegar with mother which i heard also helps in absorption of minerals

15 eggs set
5 black silkies and 10 cream legbars.

Whoohoo!

Wa!!!!! Lost my crested cream legbar chick! She drowned:(

I'm so sorry.
You could try using a quail waterer during the first couple days to prevent this, until they get steady legs.

How do I give electrolytes to chicks?

There are special packs you can by at the store that you mix into their water or you can find a recipe to make it at home and make a batch (this also goes in the water). If a chick is reluctant to drink try gently dipping the tip of its bill into the water, or into a spoonful of the mix (a measuring spoon works well). You can also hold the chick and get a drip on your finger, then touch it to the chicks beak. This should cause an automatic swallowing response, which often gets them to start drinking on their own.

I hope this helps. : )

Have been researching quail again this afternoon. I am planning to start with coturnix this year, with hopes of stocking the freezer as well as having some fun playing with genetics (which I can't help but do with anything I raise, I fear). I raised up some bobwhites last year outside in a rabbit hutch and they were adorable. Switching to coturnix for size and speed of maturity. Looking forward to raising me up some popcorn chicks. Anyone else doing quail?

I am gonna be hatching coturnix quail, hopefully will get some silver ones this year

Right now I am focusing on breeding my scarlet and wanna mix in some silver to get cream.
