The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

Well I have not played hide and seek in many a year

But I would start with one.

If you have only just put the eggs in the bator there is no development in them untill they reach the optimum temperature and cells start dividing so there is nothing to count. After a full 24 hours of incubation that is day 1.
So with the first 24 hrs being called day 1 it would start on the 5th and end on the 6th. So technically half of the 5th would be day 1 or are you only supposed to count the day after it ends?

I just want to thank those who have offered me eggs for this hatch along.

it's a blessing to be a part of a community of kind hearted people. I got a call this morning as well from a friend who has 15 eggs in her incubator when it went out this morning. She has put them under a heat lamp and will be bringing me them this morning to hatch along with the eggs a very kind person here has offered to send. I'll withhold the name unless they say it's ok but I wanted to say a public THANK YOU!!! YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST.

Good luck. That's why this is such a great community. Hope everything works out for you!!

Day 1 is the 6th. When it starts and begins does not bother me, I generally go on if I set on a Saturday the expected hatch day is three Saturday's later.

So ya start counting after the day ends. Not when it begins? That doesn't make sense though. Ya don't say that today is now Monday because Monday ended. Monday starts at 12pm and ends at 11:59. So half way through the 6th would be day 2 because day 1 had just ended.

If you wanted to be super specific, you can absolutely count day 1 exactly 24 hours after you put the eggs in the incubator. To simplify things, and since chicks don't normally hatch EXACTLY 504 hours after the begin incubating, day one is the day after you set the eggs, and worry less about exact time frame.
If I were to set eggs today, Tuesday March 1st, I would mark on my calendar that tomorrow, Wednesday March 2nd, is day one, regardless of what time of day I actually set the eggs, because a estimated hatch day is good enough for me.

Think of the days as a full 24 hours and not days of the week like you are. Day 1 is a full 24 hours. Day 2 is a full 24 hours, and so on. The eggs need a full 21 days, however many hours that adds up to, to hatch. They don't care about what day of the week it is. So when you put them in, you count 24 hours then label that day 1. It doesn't matter what time they were put in
