I just re-read the instructions about not adjusting temp after setting eggs; it's 2 to 4 hours, not 24. I was up 'til the four hours passed and everything stabilized.
The 24 hour rule is my rule LOL.

It takes that long sometimes when you add the eggs for the temperature to stabalize. The two to four hour rule is between adjustments later in incubation. For example, if the incubator is too low, increase the setting and wait two hours before increasing more.

This is what you do for setting the eggs:

Turn on the incubator several days before setting and get it stable to the correct temperature.
Set the eggs and do not touch it for 24 hours
After 24 hours, if the temperature needs to be adjusted, increase or decrease in small increments and wait 2 to 4 hours before adjusting again.

I hope this helps!

My mom doesn't like birds as a whole, but she still brags about mine when she gets the chance!

Aww that's awesome!!

Funny how that works isn't it? Oh I don't like the birds/they're gross.. then why are you hanging out with them, or in your moms case, bragging about them? :p

Ok the little road trip to get eggs was a bit of an adventure when I realized I grabbed the wrong adapter for the gps. But I got them, thank you Christina and ty for the free extra dozen! First pic is the beautiful new eggs on the way home (CL, OE, EE), 2nd pic is of all the eggs together (mine are from various prod. type hens by CL & EEs roos). I filled up my lucky dry hatching bator with the new blood and had pull an even older incubator out of the attic for eggs from my own flock. It has no fan and no turner so we'll see how it goes. I never did fit all that are pictured.
Total set: 91

What about the family members who BUY you more chicks just because they "looked lonely" when they went to get something unrelated.

Currently its a Disney movie outside. Rabbit came down to feed ,terrified of chickens, bolted up the gulley and to the far left wayyyyy away from them THEN came down that way to feed and fed over there and now been there 10-20 minutes :p

Squirrel just approached and is being very brave and circling the run then backing off then coming back. Finally left i think but may come back.

Chickens mobbed the fence in both cases and in the squirrel case, it came right to the fence a couple times.

The bunny was just scared. Squirrel was just as curious about the chickens as the chickens were about him.
