The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

I usually never candle tell right before lockdown. But I just candled my orust eggs I set on the March 3. And see development in 8 out of the ten. I paid 115 for these eggs so I'm super excited. Looking good so far for Orust chicks for Easter!!!!

[COLOR=800080]I got my eggs today from a dear friend,[/COLOR] [COLOR=800080]and had no idea what she was bringing. What a happy surprise! She brought 9 Serama, 3 Lavender Marans, 9 Splash & Partridge Brahma, 15 Silver, Lavender & Black Am's, and 6 OE (CCL x Marans). What a fun hatch this is going to be![/COLOR]

Oh I'm so green with envy sounds like some very very fun and beautiful eggs

Okay sorry made my final number additions. We had another silkie go broody which gives me two broody silkies each with four eggs
8 eggs
Plus the original 48 in the incubator gives me a grand total of 56 eggs going for the hatch-a-long!!!

Yay! Again that is 56 eggs. We set the bator on friday, Lovey on Saturday, and Mary Anne(think its Mary Anne but it could be her twin sister Jilligan we didn't want to mess with her too much after giving her the eggs) on Monday

  Sounds like you have some chicks on the way!     Have to ask..about your Buckeyes.  How do they lay?  Pretty good..or really good?   I've had my eye on them for a while.  No pun intended, until I wrote it! 

X2 DH2B has been wanting buckeyes so I'd love to hear about them too. How are they in a mixed flock? Are they bullies? Are they people friendly? How are the roos? Lol sorry

I have those Bantam Barred Rock Cochin eggs going into lock down tomorrow. The eggs are pretty porous. I had a few quit last week. Just a few days ago in fact. But, I have 10 going into lock down. Also, most of these eggs have really bad air cells..a few of them are saddled most of the way up the side, but there is a live baby in them. Hoping they can make it out!

I set 20 more eggs today. I have no idea what they are. Some were only 20-25g. What kind of chicken lays an egg that small? My Silkies and Cochins lay eggs that are about 40g... So weird. It will be a surprise!

A Serama lays that small.

My little silver cot died. I had been carrying him in my shirt for the day and needed to get some sleep (I am sick). I went to lay him down in the bator and he wiggled out of my hand and fell 18 inches. He seemed all right so I tucked him back into his sock nest and went to bed. I got up 3 hours later and went to tape his curled feet and he was dead.

I have determined that we are all masochist at some level. Addicted to the drama of life and death. My peeping egg went silent so I don't know if it is going to hatch or not.
