The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

Welcome to the HAL! :frow

If the turner isn't working could you try tilting it by hand? I'm not sure how turners work because I have never used one, but that might be easier then trying to turn them all by hand.

Congrats on the broodies! We had a silkie hen named Ginger too. :)

Oh no, I think a terrible case of "Chicken Math" has started! :gig

Most of us have the opposite problem-

(My) DH thinks (I've) we've lost our (my) mind.

I think he needs to get to work on another pen. Sounds like your DH is on a buying spree worthy of any of us chicken addicts though! :clap

my biggest problem now is SPACE!!! I told my husband that we needed another brooder and coop and he goes..." Well looks like I get to make one this weekend for our anniversary."

11 years, 2 kids and 60 chickens later I think he finally understands me

I candled today 2/30 clear, 28 good. This one has me worried, the little embryo is swimming around, but then I turned it to the side...

Should I be worried? Is this the beginning of a blood ring?

No, Blood rings do not look like that. It looks like a normal egg candled from the bottom. Veins do not grow int the air cell so you will often see a line there.

Eggs with blood rings have not veins and the inside of the egg will look a bit milky.

Ok folks, i have an issue here and would like yalls opinion. I bought some Eng Orp eggs that were posted on another site. 16+/$125, must be picked up. Fertility running about 90% but can't guarantee fertility or hatch rate. Some of the eggs were already 5-6 days old so when i got them i left them sit overnight then stuck them in my bator. Now here it is day 14 and i have 5 of the 18 that are not absolutely clear. Well that's nowhere near 90% so i contact seller and i get " well i'm sorry ur having problems but i stated i don't guarantee fertility". Then i get " these orpingtons are so hard to breed because they are so fluffy". Really?! So i sent another message, I understand that but surely you can make an exception due to the drastic reduction of fertility compared to what you were projecting"? So far no answer. I'm not looking for free anything but i think fair is fair, at least a 50% viability i could live with but 30+%. Ok so what would you do ?

From my point of view, when you make a purchase you are agreeing to all terms set forth. They said upfront they can't guarantee fertility or hatch rate. As a buyer I would have passed on the eggs since hatch is understandable, but I want a seller that will replace if fertility is bad. As a seller myself I would guarantee fertility, but if I have something stated before a purchase is made I also expect the buyer to have read and understood the terms

Oh wait ! I got another message ! "your right, that is a big drop. Tell you what i'll do i have 12 jubilee eggs (mine were ALL BBS) that i can let you have for $85 instead of the $125 i've been asking". I've been watching the posts where she's got these listed and she can't get them sold. So she wants to sell them to me ? OMG

I'd avoid it if I was you.
