The 7th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-A-Long!

Ok...question - for seasoned hatchers - do you prefer hatching in a carton or laying the eggs down on their sides in the bator?

Why do you prefer your chosen method?

(Not meant to be a debate - just want to know more about both methods, success rates, etc...)

I lay mine down. More natural. A hen doesn't put them in cartons

The absolute hardest part of hatching...Seeing the eggs rocking and hearing them cheep while you wait.
I've got to get my brooders finished and set up, otherwise, I'd spend all day staring at the incubator.

That's what's been happening to my time!! Staring at eggs that are doing nothing ;)

Candled my sweetgrass turkey eggs last night.  9 of the 10 are growing ..  should have baby turkey Easter....

:clap

I'll lock down this evening. My debate is that I have a cooler-bator that I will be hooking up this evening as soon as I unpack the thermostat (should arrive today). I need to lock down this evening, but the cooler-bator will not be tested for more than a few hours before I have to lock down. I have a staggered hatch in my hova-bator so can't take the egg turner out. I could take a few chick rails out and put the eggs in the bins I was planning on using in my cooler-bator. Will the extra humidity hurt the ones that are not ready to lock down or should I take a chance on the untested cooler-bator?

My little Lucky has graduated from his chick-chair. I left him out of it yesterday evening before bed-time as I saw he was doing an ok job running around (still stumbled some). This morning, he is running around with the others. It must not have been a broken leg after all. Can't remember what you call it, but he couldn't put his weight on one leg so I thought it was broken. Must've been a muscle issue. Either way, he seems ok now. I'll leave the splint on for a few days just in case. Look at that precious little naked neck (plus my new, fluffy bantam chick

So far we've gotten an egg a day from 2!! WOOT! They are still tiny though... when do they usually start getting bigger in size?? Or will they not? They're 21 weeks. Just PERFECT little eggs though, just tiny!! Lol
