The 8th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!!!!

Mmmm... that's how I started with chickens. Our first two birds were not my project but my sons' and his dad's. As they lost interest I took over and that's how my chicken adventures began. They are getting ferrets next but I'm NOT looking after those!
They don't have a bald molt then like chickens can? Or is it an individual bird thing?
I don't know if other ducks get bad molts like chickens, but I've never had a duck who did.

Just one thing you should know: Ducks are very messy, and they poop A LOT nore then chickens, and when they do, it's very watery. But they're awesome animals
But, they are totally worth it. And personally don't have much trouble with mess now that they aren't in the brooder, which is probably due to the fact that they have a large pen and their pen is on a tiny hill.(I'm talking tiny)

Mine are horrible! A big reason I am getting rid of my ducks is because I cannot stand the feathers everywhere! My yard looks half white and I only have 1 white duck!

And it is like this every year since I have owned ducks, when I had 10 Pekins and Runners all together it was horrible! That and the fact that they make such a mess of everything and dig holes in the mud causing there to be large dirt spots in the yard is another reason I am done with ducks

Hello everyone! My name is Emily, and I'm new to BYC. I have 12 chickens and bought an incubator to finally hatch my own!

I'm trying to join the hatch-a-long, but I can't seem to find out how to add my name to Sheet 2. Does anyone know how to do this?

Thanks!

Sorry they don't molt well. I don't have problems with dirt spots and messes, but then again, I purposefully put the pen on a place with good drainage.

Yes I am. Got rid of all but 2 last year and I am getting rid of these two ASAP so it is 2 less birds to test when I become NPIP certified in a month or so. My ducks free range and our yard does have good drainage it is just that when we get 10+ inches of rain in a day it stands and they make a huge mess within minutes...

Hi :welcome & the thread!

You are all joined up now, you just need to post in the thread then Banty will add you to the sheet.

Good luck with your new incubator, how exciting for you :clap

Got another 2 cochin eggs today! The other female is laying, but the male still will not give semen... I will literally cry if I do not get any eggs out of them for this, as I was looking forward to the chicks they would throw
