question, ive been told you shouldn't hatch a chickens first egg, is there something wrong with hatching the first egg?

It's not a case of that you shouldn't but for me I like to wait to make sure the pullet has her egg laying machine in full working order before setting her eggs. Often new layers can have blips in the egg making process which would not be conducive to a successful embryo developing. This is not always the case though and some do hatch perfectly fine.

You can incubate any egg that is fertile. The problem with first eggs is that the are often on the small side. Small eggs will have a lower hatch rate. Eggs in the large size hatch the best while jumbo and larger have lower hatch rates too.

4 of 9 chicks have hatched so far and 2 more on way it's the last 3 I don't think will make it. But that's still good because this is my first incubator hatch. And I did not even know about the egg weight loss thing.

You wished me good luck on my hatch and I just wanted to let you know that I had 6 pips on day 25 and then the temp dropped overnight down to 52F, I almost called it quits but I didn't and now the eighteenth has just hatched

There was a lull in the hatching last night so we took out 14 and left the wet ones and one with really badly curled feet (as much as I hate to I may end up culling that one )

Are you going to give it boots?
