The 8th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!!!!

Quote: Not turning or not turning enough can cause some embryos to die at day 7-10. Those that make it past that point will hatch but they may be sticky because of not absorbing the yolk as well as normal.

Watch for stuck chicks and you might need to wash a couple of them.

Post pictures when they hatch!
Ron knows his stuff.

That'll be something to watch out for then.

I always seem to have an egg or two or three that are a bit more porous and those chicks get either shrink wrapped or don't make it. The way I hatch different stages of eggs can also be a factor. So far I haven't had the sticky issue with no turns.

A certain percentage die and those that make it close to lockdown have "usually" made it and hatched in my case. It could be anything from luck, to the particular incubator or where a person lives to influence the hatch. I'm hoping the best for your hatch...and everyone else's hatches!!! And yes...please keep us informed and send pics!!

Ok, will do! Thanks, Ron!

Look what I received yesterday. Order of 24 eggs. He sent 6 extra. Tracking showed it was going the wrong way at first! Took 5 days to get her. As soon as I saw the box, I went..oh oh..and then when I opened it..I went .. that smell! Oh no!

He had packed pretty good. They were inside this cooler, with the big bubble things. A few
of those had popped! Anyway, as you can see, egg yolk! On the outside.

You can see here some of the large bubble wrap that popped/deflated. He has those
cartons wrapped with thick postal paper! Inside and out.

As you can see above and here, egg yolk went everywhere.

There were broken eggs in each carton, even the small one. As much as that box
has been tossed around, that egg yolk went onto all..all..of the eggs. It doesn't look like
it here, but it was on the bottom!

I had to wash all of them, of course toss quite a few. The ones that were just broken enough to check for being fertile..were fertile!
I just went ahead and set them early last night. I checked on them later on..a couple were oozing. Took them out. Later, went to touch them to check for temp. The very egg I touched first, wouldn't budge! What? It was stuck in the holder. I had tried washing them gently..not real hard to try and save some. I guess this and another one needed more harsh cleaning..two stuck in the bator. I waited until this morning to take the unstuck eggs out to take those two out. Over the sink, ran some water over them, still stuck. I got one out, it broke all the way..glad I took the other eggs out and didn't force them in the bator. The other egg just broke on the top..so, I kept it to look at the yolk if possible. Man it was hard getting that stuck baked on egg shells off of the holder! . Took some soaking to finally get the stuck on egg shell out of the holders. They all got a good wipe down before I put the eggs back in.
Well, I checked out the egg that just had the tip broken off. First time for everything. I could see through the tip, a floating air cell. Bubbles! I remember back in the day I used to think while candling, that I was seeing water/fluid! I would ask the people I got the eggs from why I was seeing water in the tip of the egg...lol.. Well, we all know now..it's the broken air cell floating around up there. It was interesting to see the bubbles..broken air cell. I have a feeling..there are more of those in this bunch that I went ahead and set. Will see in a few days.

I showed the photos to the guy that sent them. At first, he was saying..I sent you an extra doz. And, that he only saw a few broken. That the doz. should cover the ones broken. He did offer to send me another doz. I think he took a better look at the photos. Wrote back and was asking just how many broke, and were any broken in the extras...and, what did I want him to do. I had written him back at the same time..saying, don't send any now, let's wait and see what happens with the ones I set. I did tell him I got a cut in half carton..so 6 .. not 12 extra. That's ok. Will see. Surely some will hatch. Will know if any will start in a few days.

Ok, here is my favorite post office video. You can skip the first part where he shows the little cars and trucks. Right at the first of the video, it shows how machines ..dump..the packages onto a belt. He then asks..you didn't think all of the mail was handled by hand did you? Then watch how bumpy those belts are!

@Cynthia12 Holy COW! I hope they are replacing some or giving a refund or hopefully some are salvageable! Good Night! What shipping company was that through?

Thanks for your input guys! I agree with you! Unfortunately the whole unit is dead. I called the company and they are having issues with their power PAC supplier. In this case they asked me to try and plug in the lid to another power supply if I had one and when I tried it was completely melted from the inside of the cord into the lid unit on top! Not good considering this unit arrived yesterday at 11am! But thankfully the company is aware of the issue and says that the unit I received is very bad and that they want to study it.

They are shipping out a whole new unit and the employee I spoke to will personally run my new unit until the end of his shift later tonight to try and make sure that my new incubator works hopefully flawlessly! Here's hoping!
