The 8th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!!!!

You have a double yolker?! That is awesome!
yes and I will put an all nighter if I have to. If they need help, I had 2 doubles but one I cracked and still set it hoping but nope it was not to be and that one was a HUGE egg
for reference the squares are one inch

So I need advice on what to do for shipped eggs with saddle air sacks during lock down, what position is best? They are still developing but have had some with blood rings and a quitter.

Big end up in cut down egg cartons. Mark the air cell and hope they pip inside of it. If not, you may need to help them.

Keep us updated on the double yolker!

Yes please! :thumbsup

Update: Sorry for the delay on the update but my healths been crazy and this being our first hatching, well it's been crazy! :barnie

Over the course of three days we had a total of 49 quail eggs hatch though one of our babies died with the first few hours. :hit

We bought a heat plate to replace the lights since I'm always afraid they will fall, burn chicks, catch something on fire or explode! Not to mention my electricity bill! I have to say the heat plate from Premier1 is AWESOME!!! :woot

Our quailing? I think that's the right terminology. Yes, our quailing are feathering out, jumping around, testing their wings and most importantly quiet! :duc

I candled last night and good thing I did! Since I probably overstuffed my Incuview with quail eggs they weren't turning like they should in the top corners, so I moved the fertile eggs more in the middle and shoved what I think are blanks into the corners.

Also when I was candling the EHAL quail eggs I thought I might as well check in on the EHAL Duck Eggs which are in the same incubator and oh my they are so CUTE! They responded to my voice telling them they are so cute and calling "Here Duckie, duckie, duckies!!!" What an amazing feeling!!!! Its like watching a sonicgram of a baby but in egg form!!!!!! :weee

Now we will just have to wait and see what happens Easter Weekend! :pop

How have your batches been? :)

@Glaseria, how much was the Premier 1 heating plate? I'm looking to get one, it needs to be able to brood about 50 chicks.

Then you possibly want the large as it states that it can handle 50 chicks. I'll be honest, we bought a small and a large to cover our bases and have yet to even open the large yet. We are using the small to heat our quail babies right now. We purchased directly from there web site and now I know why everyone wants more the $100 of their product. There Shipping is ridiculously priced in my opinion! However if you purchase more the $100 your eligible for free ground shipping which was fast but the box did arrive beat up. Thank goodness they had strings in the packing tape to keep the box together! I believe the large was $76 and the small just around $50 Here are the dimensions of the different sizes and their description.

An alternative to a heat lamp. Less of a fire risk. A heating plate simulates a hen keeping chicks warm and cozy beneath her feathers.

Heating Plate & Cover Dimensions:
Heat Plate prices
Extra Small: 10" x 10" (up to 15 chicks) $41.00
Small: 12" x 12" (up to 20 chicks) $49.00
Large: 16" x 24" (up to 50 chicks) $76.00

I hope this helps! :thumbsup
