I convinced my husband we needed chickens, he was sceptical but built me a chicken coop! We now have ten 8 week old girls residing in that coop! Mr. Sceptical now has the addiction as well he wants to adopt all the free chickens in the classifieds! We fight over who gets to do the chicken chores, and I could sit and watch and take pictures of them all day long! We have 2 Rhode Island Reds 2 Barred Plymouth Rocks 3 New Hampshire Reds and 3 Buff Orpingtons. I was constantly looking for answers and could always find them here so I figured I'd join and I can't wait to learn more!

Post a couple pics! I wish the men in my life loved chickens the way I do, lucky you!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. Very few BYC members are immune to "chicken math." Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Hi, and welcome to our flock!

Glad you could join the BYC community! Thanks for sharing those photos, too. Sounds like you have a lovely flock with some nice breeds. I've kept a Rhode Island Red hen for the past four years, and have really enjoyed her egg production and temperament.

Good luck with your flock!

Welcome to BYC - beware of the 'free' chickens up for adoption. It is very easy to introduce disease into a healthy flock.

Welcome to the flock. Ive got 10 3 week old chicks. 6 welsummers and 4 pullets. I could sit for hours and watch them. I have one of them thats makes a very strange noise almost like a quail or something and the all stop and dont make a move or sound for awhile..pretty sure its a rooster in training. Never thought id get hooked on chickens.

I totally agree with Sourland, I just came to say it too late. Be very careful about taking in "free" birds unless you have the means and desire to keep them totally quarantined for a month or longer. They could be carrying any number of very serious or fatal diseases. Even when buying from other sources, quarantine is the way to go. You don't want to lose the lovely birds you already have.
