The adventures of Barbara (BR)

Glad you found her safe and sound.
Glad you had the boys there to help you call for her!

Getting Back to Normal

The girls didn’t get to free range until late afternoon today. Barbara was happy to stay in the pen, as spending the night in the Food Palace wasn’t quite as much fun as she had first thought. It was like running away from home—it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Silver came trick or treating at the back door, announcing himself by crowing very loudly. He also accompanied an egg customer up to the door and crowed for him. The egg customer was very impressed.

The Food Lady came out with some leftover bread and Wendy and the Wyandottes and the Silly Ameraucana Sisters gorged themselves on it. Even Leroy and Hot Stuff ate some. Barbara did not come over for treats, though. She stayed close to the coop. It was the first time her appetite did not win.

At dark the Food Lady went to lock up the banties. Sometimes some of the Little Girls will roost on the top of the plywood wall between the studs. Hopefully the Little Girls are fat enough that they will not fall down inside the wall. It may not be too long before that won’t be a problem, as they have roosted there for quite some time and the wall may be getting full. Some of the others like to roost on top of the window, it keeps their fluffy parts cool.

Leroy was glad to have Barbara back. Wendy was fluffier, but Barbara was his Woman Chicken. He snuggled right up to Barbara and stuck his head under her wing. Barbara was glad to be back in her rightful place with her Man Chicken to protect her.

Edited to add: sorry about the quality of these photos, it was REALLY dark and I moved the camera.

Some day I'm gonna have a band and we will call ourselves Wendy and the Wyandottes. I bet the Ameraucana Sisters will headline with is!

I love the Barbara updates. Keep them coming.

The Ameraucana Sisters can sing backup! (They make a different funny noise, too).

We have the Wyandottes: Wendy, Wanda and Walter. There are 4 more, but they haven't "told" me their names yet. Suggestions? I'm trying to keep the alliteration going so Chickendad can remember who I am talking about. One of them wants to be called "Alice" though.
