The adventures of Barbara (BR)

I LOVE the description of Bob's romantic technique...."Brace yourselves girls!" Whatever happened to whispered sweet nothings and presentation of special treats?!!

Did Barbara happen to do any Trick or Treating for Halloween? I'm imagining her costume....maybe something warm to cover up the bare areas.

We use Ivermectin twice a year, or if needed sooner, to take care of any external or internal parasites they may have picked up. I put it in a syringe, but just drop it on their bare skin. They don't get stuck with a needle!

I do it the same way. Come in with a needle after dark, grab 'em up and part the feathers! Just a drop on the skin though, I don't stick them. It's the only way I know of to get that small of a dosage.

How much of the Ivermectin do you put on the chicken? And can you still eat the eggs? Looked at it the other day and could not decide what a dose would be....tks.

where can I get Ivermectin?

Good grief....no place much smaller than Scranton, Arkansas where I just got pig feed and scratch! You will find it....

Now, on to Barbara! I love the stories and they are written so well! I have a BarbaraAnn.....one of the new pullets, there are three and then two hens Lucy and Ethel....all Barred Rocks for my rooster, the Lone Rooster!

One more week of quarantine.

I got it at TSC. It is off label for chickens, so the label says for cattle and swine. Do not use the Ivermectin paste for horses! A $20 bottle will last a long time. I use 2–3 drops for bantams, 4–5 drops for large fowl. Dr. Karcher (Poultry Specialist from MSU) says if you want to withold the eggs, box them up and send them to him—he will eat them! Ivermectin is pretty safe and a few extra drops by mistake aren't dangerous to your birds.

I like the fact that it controls external (scaly leg mites, mites, etc.) as well as internal parasites (gapeworm, etc.)
