I'm thinking it's a genetic thing. All but one of the five had something wrong with him. We got them as chicks and they were not vaccinated for Marek's (lost one that way). I don't think the gene pool is large enough. I've had no other problems with any other breeds. The three remaining girls are from eggs we hatched (and vaccinated!) from the original chicks. They appear to be fine . . . so far. . . not holding my breath!

Thanks everyone for your comments and kind wishes. I enjoy reading your reaction to Barbara's adventures.

maybe get some from a different line?

i always enjoy barbara and her stories- our barbara isn't quite the diva yours is YET....

So sorry about the poor rooster, but the mental picture of him lying on his back with his feet up in the air and little Xs on his eyes was just too much!!! Sooooo funny.

We got them from a breeder. They are supposed to be from top lines, but I have been unable to track down the which ones. The cockerels were drop dead gorgeous (you should pardon the pun . . .) before the unfortunate circumstances befell them. (Maybe their axe-murderer wives?) The breeder did not believe in vaccinating chicks; survival of the fittest and all that. It's pretty typical that people don't like to talk about problems in their bloodlines, so it's difficult to get any feedback.

They are really nice birds, but not worth the hassle for us. Just going to stick with our BLRW, MF and white Cochins, Rocks and Ameraucanas. Barbara and the Chickie Girls will always have a home here, too! It is way more than enough to keep us busy, especially since Barbara keeps having Adventures.

Teresa, I think you've got those boys confused with your Tyson the Chick Magnet. . . . Maybe I should have kept him around to give lessons . . .
