The adventures of Barbara (BR)

That sounds fun! When is it?

It is today and tomorrow. There were quite a few of us BYCers there. One of us (not me) was showing chickens, several of us were buying chickens (not me again), and the rest of us were drooling and wishing that we could buy. There was a very studly BR rooster in the cage behind Cheryl's girls. He was doing his best to get the girls' attention. I'm sure that Barbara would have put him in his place if she had been there!

WOW!!!! I have just completed the entire saga of Barbara Big Butt and her barnyard pals!!!! Thank you soo much, Mrs. Chickendad, for journaling ALL of Barbara's adventures and her friends! Thank you, also, for the clothing ideas you have come up with. Not just t-shirts but chicken aprons as well!!! I am looking forward to the next installment of Barbara and, if you don't mind, an update on those silly guineas!?? You painted such a vivid picture of them running and shrieking around the coop when you came in! I could just see and hear it! hahaha I used to have just two guineas I raised in the house and, when they finally moved to the coop with the chickens, they would run hysterically round and round the coop EVERY evening for DAYS shrieking at the top of their lungs because they couldn't figure out how to get in!!! I don't think the elevator gets to the top in their little brains!

Today is Chicken Beauty Makeover Day in preparation for the Silly Ameraucana's jetting to the sunny south tomorrow night. It is Mrs. Chickendad's task to get those three Silly Girls' look updated today so they make a good impression with their beauty, because a good impression with their brains just ain't gonna happen. . . like we've said before, the wheel is spinning, but the hamster is dead. . .

Then there are more panties to remove in the cochin breeding pens. It just kills Mrs. Chickendad to cut off all those beautiful fluffy cochin feathers, especially when Barbara and the other Big Girls need feathers so badly! But beauty must be sacrificed for the desire for little chickies. So it is time to get the show on the road.

It is certain that Barbara will have some sort of adventure very soon. Stay tuned . . .

Here is a picture of one of the "Silver Pullet Band" . . .

Hi. I found the Barbara thread last night and read the first 40 pages. I had to "fast forward" to the present day to compliment you. You are very creative! You make the typical day of a chicken seem like a great worldly adventure ... like a comic book! Thanks for entertaining so many chicken lovers.

The Chickens Fly Away

Barbara will not have to worry about the Silly Silver Ameraucanas any longer. On Monday, Mrs. Chickendad came out and got them and took them into the house and Barbara has not seen them since. The Wheaten Ameraucanas are all alone in their big pen now and all the girls are laying eggs like crazy. Barbara has noticed that those girls lay blue eggs just like the silvers did, but they aren’t so cranky, either. Mrs. Chickendad sent the Silly Silver Ameraucanas down south where it is warmer and they can finally go outside. They seem very happy in their new home, but they better be careful and not call any of the other girls “Big Butt”. Don’t step on anyone’s toes when you are new.

One of the little Mille Fleur Cochin boys flew to his new home in snowy Massachusetts. Mrs. Chickendad brought him in the house and gave him a bath and a pedicure so he would be suitable to meet his lady. He really enjoyed the bath and blow dry, laying on Mrs. Chickendad’s lap and stretching out like he was sunbathing. He spent the rest of the afternoon in the house, toddling around the kitchen floor and talking to Mrs. Chickendad. She gave him a plate of noodles and (shhhhhh.....) chicken to fill him up for the big trip, which he shared with Roger, the cat. He has a wife waiting for him, and he is quite excited about her. He is crowing and trying to impress her with his soprano voice. He adds another note, too, so he says, "cock-a-doodly-doo. There is no word if she has been wowed yet.

Barbara has been sleeping most of the time. It is just too snowy to go out. Chickendad left the coop door open for a little while last week while Mrs. Chickendad was helping him clean the Big Girls Coop. The Big Girls made a traffic jam pileup at the door trying to get out, but when they got a good look at all the snow, they beat it to the opposite corner of the coop, complaining the whole time. The Chickendads cleaned the coop in halves, putting clean, piney shavings down for the girls to play in. They sprinkled some sunflower seeds in it to get the girls to rake it up and get them to go the the clean side so the dirty side could be cleaned. The girls were glad for the distraction, but were disappointed that it was not spring outside. The Chickendads are also disappointed that it is not spring, but there are egg babies in the incubator and the days are getting longer. February is a short month, too, so March will be here soon. There will be baby chickies all over the place very soon and they are so fun to raise. Life is good and baby chickies are new life.
