The African and Chinese goose thread!!

I totally agree. Once the geese get to know you and that you are no threat to them, they are really nice birds just chatting away softly and mowing/fertilizing the lawn... and they are so watchful and attentive! Mine have already formed a sort of alliance with my Sheps. The gander gives his shrieking warning and my boys run to near where the geese are(it's the only time my gander doesn't give BIG warnings to the dogs to keep FAR away from his ladies), and bark their big deep warnings, then set out on perimeter patrol. If my boys are inside, they demand to be let out to do patrol and check out the situation. I'm really fascinated by it.
Also... My lawn has never looked so green and nice with so little effort. The holes they dig recover with grass pretty darn fast(lots of leavings around those holes), and simply watering in the leavings from their mobile pen every day or two has my back lawn LUSH.

I spend most of my time outside when I'm gardening talking to them... My husband believes I've lost some of my marbles I think. But then he watches them come hover around me and chatter back, and he just shakes his head and walks off.

DH knows how much I love all my animals. He sure is supportive in every choice I make. We are totally revamping coops and pastures, been a lot of work recently. Happy geese have lots of grass or hay and sprouts in the winter months. Now that we have added a donkey and cow, the geese, ducks will be moving to a much larger pasture with them.
I think some folks think I am a "bit off" and I frankly do not care, lol. We raise all our food here and my geese help to protect my flocks by alerting them to predators. And I just adore them, my 10 adults each have their own personalities and I love them all.

I've got a kiddie pool for my gander and after its filled up,he'll get in it,and then flap his wings and run around the pen. Even my chickens get in the pool sometimes. And somehow, corn cobs I give them wind up in the pool. Reasons for all this? Sorry I post so much, just have a lot of questions! I want to understand them, and keep them as happy as I can

He is just really excited to see water I'm sure. I don't know why the corn cobs would be in there.

I find rocks sticks and just about any thing else they can carry and pick up in their pools and water buckets. Isn't it hilarious when they are in the pool and all of a sudden swim around real fast them jump out and do and it all over again I have 4 that do it. I think it is excitement too.

My gander walked up to me the other day and wrapped his head around me and then looked at me and did it again till I scratched his neck...
