The African and Chinese goose thread!!

I could really use some help! I'm picking up an African gosling this evening, he's one day old, do I feed him chick starter? What temperature do I keep him at? I have chicks in the brood that are 2-3 weeks old, any and all help would be appreciated

I feed mine- nutrena all flock
Purina also makes: flock raiser
I beleive chick starter will be okay as long as it is NOT medicated
And your gosling will need niacin added to the chick feed.
Since it does not contain enough.
I add 1 tablespoon nutritional yeast(for niacin) per cup of feed for my goslings.
And the first 3-5 days my goslings liked 85 ish degrees in the heated corner. After that they started staying further away so i started raising it up. And they liked about 78-80 by the end of their first week.
Are you getting two babies? Or just one?

@the loco-cochin
   I would not put the very young gosling in with chicks either.  I hope your getting 2 goslings they do so much better when they have a buddy.

In the mean time you can try a stuffed animal and a safe mirror till you find another gosling. These can help.

Be sure to post pics we love baby pics!!
Also I noticed he kinda coughed/sneezed last night and a teensey tiny amount of clear liquid came out of his little nostrils, what can I do so that he doesn't develop a cold or worse?

They can drink too much water sometimes and that will come out their nostrils. Could that have been it? Bedding and dusty feed can also cause sneezing.

Keep him warm[look at gosling thread on raising] and keep the lil one out of drafts. You can also supplement with some good Poultry vitamins[Poultry Nutri Drench] is a good one. Be sure to start it on niacin or brewers yeast also for good strong leg development.
