The African and Chinese goose thread!!

That's great! I can't wait for babies.. I'm really hoping that we get some. She has such a large nest that I'm really hoping we have a good chance. How many were your gooses nest?
Even though I've known them since they were babies I've only owned them a few months now. Ever since I've had them theyve become a little friendlier. But the male (Maverick) will still bite! The female wont bite but she is pretty shy. They've been nicer since being here I'm guessing because I'm around them a lot. I'm going to commit a lot of time with the babies in hope that they'll be friendly! Are yours friendly??
And I only have the two

Sooo friendly. They are like little puppy dogs right now!
The boy tho already sticks his neck out and yells at the ducks when they get close lol.
We will see how they do with the ducks.
Are yours real noisy?
Everyone tells me chinese are the noisiest!

I wasnt sure if you said your ducks or your geese were the friendly ones. I really want ducks and/or some chickens.. may I ask what sort of habitat you have for your ducks? I dont live by any large body of water.. I have a kiddie pool and a few large tubs. Ive read that ducks tend to spend most their time in water so I'm not sure that would be enough..?

Oh my gosh! SOOO noisey! I didn't realize how noisey and loud they would be when I took them in but the only coop here on the property is right by my house! And I don't know what the deal is with this but for the past 2 weeks Maverick goes off around 6am! I guess he wants me up and to let them out very early now.. I put them in at night and during the day they're free range. But ya, its starting to drive my boyfriend crazy! I need to build a new coop but cant afford it at this moment. And she's going to get broody any day and then I wont be able to move them.. so until Im able to move them I guess I have a very early wake up call

Our ducks are also very friendly!!
I have a very large coop that was for chickens with an attached 3 sided covered run... we turned it into the duck house... this is what they are closed into at night time.
They have a really large enclosed run thats not covered.. around 1000 sq feet. And i let them roam our back yard each morning.
They are only 7 weeks old but i bought indian runner ducks because they are listed as the best foraging breed. Preferring to forage for food rather than spending their time in the pool. I have had pekins before and all they did was float in the kiddie pools.
But the runners play all day in their enclosure and run thru the deep grass looking for food all day.
Right now they have a large kiddie pool but my husband is getting ready to dig them a pond.
But it wont be crazy large. Just enough to float in and clean themselves off.
Many people only use kiddie pools and large tubs and their ducks are very happy :)

Lol funny!! Well we have a couple close neighbors but i honestley dont mind if they are noisy. Between the neighbors crazy dogs. And the goats and the roosters i dont think the geese shohld bother anyone. But i guess we will know soon enough haha.
But with my 12 noisy female ducks- my one neighbor tells me how much he loves listening to them. Hopefully he likes listening to geese too

and thank you for the advice on your duck breed. That is very good to know. That makes me believe they would love it out here! I'll definitely do some research on them.
