The African and Chinese goose thread!!

Congrats! They are adorable. The dark one is a brown African. The white one is not Chinese. It looks like it has a little tuft, so I'd guess Roman tufted.
The bill doesn´t look right for Roman. Maybe it´s a cross with chinese? It looks a lot like the one Starfire (Ithink?) didn´t keep......
Sport tape is the same thing as vet wrap, just bought for humans instead of at a pet store. Lol my kids always get interesting injuries so I keep it stocked in my first aid kit.

Will taping his wing tightly cut off circulation in his wing?
Good to know that. I can´t get vetwrap here, it´s brilliant stuff, used to use it a lot in England. i didn´t know it was used in sports, too. I´ll have a look to see if they produce it here for the gyms. Re. wrapping a wing, I wrapped my gozzies´ wings with bandaging, then the sticky tape for bandages, as that´s all I could find here, and it worked a treat. Not too loose, not too tight, they kept it on for 3 days, then it either fell off in the pool,or I took it off. I did 5 wings, I think, in total. No problem.

That gosling looks identical to how mine looked a few weeks ago. I still have him. With my busy schedule and his we haven't gotten to do the swap yet. I can try for another photo of him tomorrow if you want to compare.

I find the sports tape at Walmart and eve HEB. Just don't get the colored or white stuff, get the brown. The colored sports tape don't stick at all, brown works well and comes in 2 widths as well. It's also called elastic bandage, or slf grip. Johnson & Johnson coach brand is what I just got.

Gotcha on the sports tape vs. vet wrap. I have had two occasions with geese getting angelwing. Both times my vet wrapped extra tight and higher up on wing than pictured in tutorials on this site and only had me leave it on a maximum of 48 hours. Both geese were fixed right up this way.

What's interesting is that only 1 of the 5 have it, and he was hatched with 2 toenails on each foot stuck together. I performer amature toenail separation surgery and you couldn't tell he ever had a problem. But it does make me think angel wing could be genetic or linked to their overall health.

Right now my geese are bunking with the chicks in an attempt to make them freindlier to the chickens when full grown. But I will built the geese their own night time enclosure. How big will it need to be for 2 pairs? They will be 2 Chinese ganders and 2 female Africans.

OK, we have Walmart here, so I´ll have a look. thanks. Whatever the name, I´ll know it if I see it. It´s such good and useful stuff. I used to use it a lot with my retired greyhounds.

With angel wing, some think one thing, others thinksomething else. to me, none of it makes sense. 5 out of my 19 goslings got it last year, none the previous 2 years got it. All ate the same stuff, and were different families...so........??

I use the sports tape A LOT. With 11 and 12 year old boys who love fighting and are taking martial arts. With dogs that love to body slam each other and try to jump fences, or dig to china and break nails. A cat that was visicously attacked and had some of her female parts hanging outside her body (put a bandage on her and rushed her to vet). And now on geese, lol. I love this stuff and keep my first aid kit well stocked with it. I hope you find it.

Maybe it's due to inbreeding which can "fix" genetic traits both good and bad. Maybe it's because the goslings are weak or deficient in some way that we can't see. Or maybe it's a recessive or sex/linked trait like color blindness in men. But the fact that it never happens to whole sets makes me curious as to why it happens at all.

We seem to have slowed down posting photos of our beautiful African and Chinese geese. So I will restart the cuteness overload with these.

Here is my youngest son holding one of our new baby female Africans today

Here are both my sons holding the 2 African females.

The older gang out in the yard and loving it!

This gosling always wants to climb in my lap. I adore him and hope he stays this loving.
