The African and Chinese goose thread!!

You can help her angel wing when she molts, use the vet wrap and bandage her wing against her body for a week. Good chance it will reverse itself, I have had good luck with it even in adults.
She would probably really appreciate a goose or gander buddy, but its not necessary. Ganders are super protective and very doting to their hens, I have never seen one abusive to a goose in the breeds I keep, unlike some duck and chicken breeds.

Thank you. I was told I couldn't do any thing for her. I will try it for sure. She is around two years old.

Yes on the note of odd behavior it's been in the 30s here an we have a big storm coming calling for snow down to 2000 ft were about 4500 here an they are calling for 20s an teens should I cover my geese pond that's in their coop they are in it 24/7 even when I think it's too cold but they will snuggle under the heat lamp when she's on the nest it's my first winter with them an I worry so much the whole pin is covered with tarp to keep out the wet but they won't go in their house an like I said most of the time live in the pond what's too cold for them?

Depending on the breed, mine are chinese and embden. We had -11F temps and all did fine inside the goose house. It was dry, had hay in there and they stayed warm. I don't recommend leaving a pond available if you get into the single digit temps. I have seen frostbite in my ducks from wanting to stay in it.
a ground type natural pond is different, it gets heat from below the frost levels of the earth. Kiddie pools are great for them unless it falls into the single digits and lower. Sooner or later they will go outdoors and risk frostbite.Wet skin will get frostbit fast.
When temps get this low, just offer buckets for "dunking" so they can clear nasal passages and still groom, very important to keep the down clean and warm. remove when frozen over.

There is not much keep her near water and give her iodine mixed with water, I think putting her in water to leave her float and dunk her head would help also is she lighter than usual?

Iodine and water internally? never heard of that. but putting her in warm water bath where she can really wash out her nares may help, please let us know how she is.

I see the connection now the lil Roman we had been talking about her congestion. I hope you find her okay this morning after getting all the stuff out of her nares. if she sounds congested an antibiotic might be a good thing. They will pick on one that isn't well too. I'd order some Baytril and start her on a round of that. I ordered from Twin City Poultry but other places on line sell it too.

When my geese get beak problems or infected beaks I put few drops of iodine in the water (not a huge bowl of water for drinking) but so when they drink the water it will help the beak because it would be sore if you do it yourself.
Sorry if that sounded confusing Miss Lydia because this is the best I can explain it haha
