A Georgia goose that does not like watermelon...probably a Yankee sympathiser.

Try a nice juicy Georgia Peach.

Seriously though, mine love melon and just about any fruit. Maybe they are still too young.
No Yankee sympathizer here! haha

They probably are too young. Can they eat chopped up apples?

If they are only 8 weeks old or so they have not had time to develop their taste for favorite treats. Make sure you have some chick grit available for them free choice and then try a few things. They will let you know what they like and don't life. Cut your apple pretty small and remove the peal. Try a few leaves of Romaine Lettuce and what ever you think they might enjoy.

Mine love Romain, Watermelon and Geraniums (leaves only).

Any help in figuring out if these are African or Chinese brown geese? We were recently gifted them for our hobby farm, I do know the largest two are the males...not sure why the one has orange bill/bump, but he weighs a lot (it took two of us to get him over the fence in his carrier...it was raining & the shortest distance was over the fence vs going all the way around the barns). The smallest is a yearling female. Only had them since Sunday and already getting one egg a day so far...not sure which female is laying yet.

Sorry the weather wasn't the greatest...and for the photo bombing barred rock who likes to hang out with the ducks & now the geese.

Thats a smart barred rock, safest place in the flocks is by the geese!
4 are brown chinese (or "hatchery african" which are truly Chinese/african cross). Looking at those necks, I would lean towards Chinese. the lighter colored hmmm not sure! May be a cross. Lovely color!
Here is my hatchery "african" gander Jerk.. He is a good boy, now that we have an understanding

Neck its thicker than my white Chinese. One of his goose hens next to him eating.

The really big tell tale hint is the voices. My chinese gander Gee is smaller, and quieter higher pitch in his call voice. Jerk has a deeper "hooink hooink" sound, Gee sounds like "Geee Geee" hence his name. Africans are heavier, deeper bodied where Chinese are more slender, trim. Here is Gee, my favorite fella

Note the sincere expression, he knows mom is hiding treats for him, and he is patiently waiting!

Hello everyone. I have a couple questions that I was wondering if someone could answer them for me.

I have a yearling Chinese female and a yearling Pilgrim female. They are BFF's they just started laying in mid-march. Today I bought 2 older Chinese males for my girls, however, my girls are playing hard to get and doing everything in their power to stay away from them. Will they get used to each other and bond as mated pairs.

And 2, the boys I bought are like my girls very close and seem bonded. Is it a possibility that my geese are 2 gay couples. (lol) While I don't mind, just wondering if I will have goslings next season.

One more, one of my guys Frank has a vivid orange ring around his knob while George doesn't. Is there something distinctive with the ring or just a characteristic. Speaking of which, the boys also pick at my girls back. Is that a normal guy to gal behavior for new geese introduction.

Thanks for listening.

I don't have Chinese but just want to say with introductions it's always best to keep them separated with fencing for a week of 2 till they get use to each other. I'm sure the boys will finally figure out there are girls living next to them and vise versa just give them time.
