Oh my, teenage boys sure can eat! The cooler weather, here at least has all my birds eating a lot more feed.

Cooler here... daily 85, instead of 95 with a heat index of 105-110.
Cooler for sure, but still not "cool" by northern measures.
About 65 at night. I figure the kids are just now starting to feel comfortable.

yikes! We are 70s daytime and mid 40s at night. Leaves are changing and falling already. Ugh I am not a fan of winter at all. Loved snow until I got older, and had to deal with rush hour traffic!

My chickens are healthy, except that one of my red hens has a large bald patch on her chest. I saw one hen pecking at it, but nothing else. Sometimes her skin gets very red. It doesn't seem to bother her, but I'm worried she'll lose more feathers. Another white hen has gleet, and I've tried washing her bottom, but it doesn't seem to help. And third, I've noticed that some of their eggs have brown spots in the yolks. Should I be concerned? And are these eggs safe to eat? I throw them away if they have spots in them.

@mothergoose08 For the feather picking you need some Blue Kote TSC carries it and it is less than 6.00 get the one with the dauber not the spray[stuff gets all over everything] use the dauber and put on your hens chest the color purple will disguise her red skin which draws the chickens to her and it becomes a vicious cycle. The kleet you can look up how others have treated it by going up top of page and typing in gleet in the search lots of info she'll need to be treated internally not just wash her bottom.
As for the eggs I am not sure what that is about I'll see if I can find some info for you. You can also go to the disease/emergency thread and ask these questions.

I couldn't find any info on treating gleet so @casportpony may know what to do for it she is my go to for info on meds.

Quote: Not this time of year, I have my adults comingled. Wasn't expecting any more eggs, lol! So they may or may not be pure, I can pick out a pure brown Chinese if its legs and feet are black. They turn yellow as the bird matures. Any white goslings that hatch will be a toss up. If it has a knob then its pure white chinese, but they take months to develop.. I have had some embden/chinese crosses in the past and the knob won't carry over. Its pretty interesting learning all this stuff.
