The African and Chinese goose thread!!

He was the most hardest goose to sex ever :,D
I dunno what my final guess was but we atleast know.
Did you have any problems yet with him

No problems he let my dominant Embden gander have the ladies and he came in 2nd but only with my young female I never saw him mating Sams female my other Toulouse. He follows Sammy around like a lil puppy so I am hoping there won't be any issues this coming breeding season other than the little bit of chest bumping they did in the pool last year.

It was hard to sex that one just about everyone but Iain Utah[J] guessed Female, she said gander from the beginning.

I think we all kept guessing gander goose gander goose eventually gander

Well you better watch them next spring because now the toulouse male is 2 years old and that's when the dominating will begin.
If your young gander is getting noisier and more talkative with the femalesor just one that's a sign that he's going to dominant Sammy any day.
But if he's quite it's all good but remember a gander always wants his own female ;)

So hopefully my young gander will stick to his Buff mate and Sammy and Missy will stick together, if fighting starts I have a plan already in place my son built a second goose house inside a fenced area so if need be I can separate the pairs and avoid any fighting, I was thinking of using this area to put all 4 when breeding begins because they were pretty rough on a few of my Muscovy ducks last year. Right now Sam rules the barn yard even my Muscovy drake but i have a feeling when spring gets here and my drake is back to full hormones he will once again rule, A Sam is actually a big wimp he just acts all big now because of testosterone level in my drake is down for winter. It's just like a big ole soap opera. lol

Wow well it's actually good that you planned ahead ;)
I see no problem if you have a fence place sorted.
Don't separate until you actually see a fight happening and if no fight happens then you are lucky they get along!
Now my experience with embdens is that my oldest gander I used to have stopped his fighting at 9-12 years while my Africans fight all their life

How old is Sammy now? 8 or 9?

He'll be 9 next April, he really doesn't have alot of fight in him when it comes to my drake except now Sam is dominant over him, but this will be my first time with a young gander and Sam. It may get exciting around here, But right now Babe thinks the sun and moon set on Sammy.

I tell you it was bad enough when I had drakes going at it all breeding season I don't think I want to have ganders fighting hopefully they will continue to get along.

Fully they will the chances are slim but you'll never know my friend ;)
Trust me gander fighting is more serious than drake on gander fighting but is easier to break up.
Once a fight does break out the chaos has just started.
The gander that isn't dominant will test the dominant one and see if he's strong enough and the second fight and the fights after that are the serious ones.
He will try and try to win even if Sammy wins the first fight.
It's cruel but that's how nature works.
Only saying this because he's old so the young gander knows he has a chance.
If Sammy was 4 years the problem would be different but the fighting would be more serious as they are both fit enough.

Sammy could still have fighting in him but I seen your young gander and he is quite large so if a fight does break out Sammy has a chance of not being dominant anymore and probably never will be again but you'll see in spring

Yep it's right around the corner [I wish] just because I am already tired of cold weather. Already.

So even ganders that have strong bonds can get testy during breeding season? I'll keep you posted. lol

Oh my gosh and loud Babe my young gander comes out of the house in the morning shrieking sounds like the cry of the banshee to bad we don't have an emicon for putting hands over ears. lol

Babe is such a masculine name for such a big gander

Ganders with strong bonds would fight but not serious and only fight when they try and mate with eachother which isn't a bad fighting.
So if they have a strong bond then you don't have to worry that much
