Late winter typically is when it starts, at least here in indiana. Some ganders don't get aggressive at all, my Gee, a white chinese had a very short spell of it at maturity. He was also raised as a real pet, just never really got that way with people.. Now BB, George and Jerk, my other ganders all 3 still test me occasionally but never follow through. BB will charge and attack strangers in a second, especially the UPS guy however! Everyone that has us on their route knows to honk and wait to make sure the geese aren't loose.

So our Peanut was murdered on the 29 by our neighbors LOOSE Pitbull!!! ******* squeezed through our gate came up to our back porch and killed him then proceeded to try and kill Marshmallow!!! We bought a gun and she won't let us get two inches away from her. Had to bring her in the house. We are going to get a goose companion for her any suggestions? Male or female? So traumatized!!!

Just sickened to read this, I am terribly sorry for your loss. Did you report it to the police? And is your neighbor compensating you for your loss, how horrible! Male or female is fine, ask yourself if you want goslings. If not I recommend another female.

Were they inside a fence? Probably a male, it will help to comfort her.

Im so sorry I know its hard I had a fox kill my only blue slate tom.

I downsized to Scovys and snow mallard only this year. Agreed, the Muscovy have an awesome personality. I had Pekin, Rouen, Swedish and a few others and was just not impressed with the other breeds as much. I kept the mallard for eggs, they are way too tiny for anything else.
