The African and Chinese goose thread!!

700

We recently ordered our first pair of geese and we're so excited. I've always wanted some and after our visit to the zoo, my husband fell in love with these geese. They were really friendly and followed us around while constantly talking to us. We ordered chinese geese since many people said these were chinese. However, someone told us that they are africans. Now I am afraid that we ordered wrong. :(

@jchny2000 , or anyone else that can help. I don't have any chick food to feed to my broody hen, but I do have cat food, the dry crumble kind. Would that help her maintain weight and get extra vitamins in her, or would it be bad for her health?

I can't really offer advice on broody geese, but I can tell you that dry cat food is generally around 28-32% protein, depending on brand and type. Also, lol, every single bird on the property (chickens and geese, both!) that's large enough to eat it loves to try to steal my barn cats' food, whether there are cats trying to eat it or not

- then again, they'll all try to steal the dogs' food, too, and, again, whether the dogs are trying to eat it or not.

Do you know if it will help maintain her weight?

Hello to all- so glad to find you. I adopted a pair of White Chinese about a month ago- they are doing well with my flock and doing all the spring stuff as expected- I must say that I anticipate a huge flock if their efforts are successful. I digress.....my question, as a first time goose owner, is that they run to me every time they see me in anxious anticipation of something. I have not yet figured out that something and every tidbit I try is met with disappointment

Is this just normal behavior or am I missing something?

They're happy to see you, and they like to be talked to.
