So sorry for your losses,I know you were happy to see Ben made it out alive. Where was he all that time?
Fred is in front, George is in back. I'm thinking that's Sweet Pea in the pool. Taken about 3 days ago.
We have 4 areas where the geese, ducks and chickens can feed during the day. One up the hill from this pool near the Oak tree, one near the other pools, one in the chicken coop and one in the goose pen. The ducks like to go to the goose pen and eat during the day and the ducks like to head to the coop to eat the ducks' food. The food is always better tasting on the other side...
Fred and George were much more subdued this morning. They hung back while the rest of the flock did their mad wing-flapping marathon. In the mornings, they rush out of their pen and to the concrete pad in front of the garage. Then they open their wings and attempt to fly to the front near the flower beds - about a football field in length- then 'fly' back. They do this a few times, then 'fly' up to the back yard where the pools are. Fred and George hung back this morning with me. When I grabbed the water dish from their pen to rinse it out, they followed me out of the garage. Fred and George did some wing-stretching, but not the 'flying' bit, which usually causes them to collapse. So far so good. The episodes seem to happen in the morning when it's chilly and there's a strong wind coming from the east. If I can get them to hang back and do less mad-flapping laps with the rest of the flock in the morning, it should help out.
What a terrible thing they must have went through, what happened to the bob cat? I hope they are all in very secure quaters now.Thank you. I was very happy to see Ben. He must have been down by the year round creek that runs through a little vail in our property. I searched the fence line of the pasture area, but didn't go any further with my search when I came across one of my females bodies by a very large opening in the fencing. I thought for sure after finding her, surely there could be no survivors.
Ben had a couple of bite marks on his neck that I cleaned and tended, other than that he seemed fine. Daisy sure was happy to have him back. Immediately she went from a very sad greiving goose, back to her old honky self.
Casey, my younger male, has since become very friendly and somewhat co-dependent on me. I can't get him to leave me alone.......constantly under foot and getting in to all sorts of trouble or trying to cause some. He is the class clown.
What wonderful creatures these geese.![]()
Pretty girl.
Was out taking pictures of some Cochin roos for comparison purposes and the gees came up to see what I ws doing. They began preening and talking...so they got their pcitures taken too.
Oh, they are beautiful! Especially that Ninya! I would love a white Chinese someday!
