The African and Chinese goose thread!!

Thanks for the info! I really appreciate it. I swear I've learned more from the BYC forums about raising poultry than any other person/vet/website/book around. I've been doing some research online for the last oh...hour or two on both Oxine and Tylan. I do have a question about Baytril: Are they still making it? I saw a few websites that said that it was taken off the shelves in 2005.

Interesting that Tylan's use for treating dark stains under dogs' eyes. Who knew? We don't have dogs.

Oxine is definitely a must. I'm going to check the local farm store first to see if it's available while in town tomorrow. If not, I'm ordering some. I've got a cool mist vaporizer not being used that can find a new home misting the coop and lower garage.

On top of all that I find a feral cat lurking around the yard trying to catch one of the bantam chicks. I don't think it would chance a duck or goose, but those little chicks would make a good snack. I'm not a good shot at 30 yards, but I still got it to jump 3 feet in the air and take off like a jet down the back field.

Yes Baytril is still available and in my opinion is the most effective antibiotic. Unfortunately you typically have to get it from a vet or have a veterinary prescription.

Hey, Jen C, does Tylan need a prescription too? Just wondering. And I didnt know about Oxine either!, still reading up on it online.
No you should not need a prescription to purchase Tylan. Oxine is great stuff too. Feed stores, etc. don't tend to carry it but I bought mine on Amazon and it was quite reasonable.

What a beautiful pasture! I think the pond was hidden too..lol. Your geese are such cuties!
