the age old question Can you write on a hatchin egg with sharpie. answer is yes with proof

I got this email off eBay that started these test.

(I am not happy with 5 of the eggs being marked with a maker. Maker contaminants hatching eggs. Pencil should be the only thing used on eggs. I will try my best to hatch these, but I would like replacements for at least those 5 eggs that you contaminated from the start. I usually have good hatches from healthy eggs but yours are contaminated and thin shelled which is another sign of unhealthy eggs. I will not leave feedback until this is resolved. As of right now I am not a happy customer. })



so will talk to my family my nephew decided to do is own test. well being a boy he went all out. one egg is sharpie and one is dry eraser marker. Both hatched out great. one pic you can see there is no marker bleeding though the egg shell. Egg were but in a sportsman bator and 21 day later go to beautiful chicks. Named sharpie and easier.

I'm sorry you had to get such a ridiculous reply from the buyer, but that's how it goes sometimes when selling.

You gotta make the customer happy. And if the customer doesn't like sharpies, then do not use sharpies on their eggs!

I personally like to use crayon because of all the beautiful colors.

I write on every one of my eggs - I've never had less than a 95% hatch rate with my eggs (shipped eggs - 50% - and some have been written on).

Good study, though! I hope you emailed the results to your moronic buyer!

it was off eBay they did not say not to use marker. I like the maker easier to see and do not come off. But I use pencil now on the shipped egg and marker on the ones in my bator,

I use a sharpie for eggs going under a hen. pencil rubs off before the chicks hatch.

Some people have nothing better to do but complain they will find fault in everything, i write on all my eggs shipped or not with sharpie and have no problems, Maybe the problem really lies in thier abbility to effectively hatch! No matter what you can never make some people happy just because they are grumpy to start with. negativity only breeds that and will shorten your life. All you can do is try!

I used to think that marker was a problem, and it might be a logical assumption, with shells being porous, but I've hatched eggs here with permanent marker on them just fine. It's one of those myths that just keeps being repeated, I guess. I use pencil most of the time, but under a broody, it rubs off too easily.

I used sharpie to mark the three sides of the eggs I had to hand turn. They hatched just fine.

I just received a batch of eggs in the mail. There were all marked with pencil. After letting the eggs sit overnight, the pencil was already starting to rub off one. I re-marked them all on the tops with sharpie so I can easily read them through the window of my incubator.

Some people are just ignorant. I hope they didn't leave negative feedback for you.
