Yeah , it is sad to see him declining. He has to wear depends. Getting old really sucks.
When i get a dog for grooming , i put it on the table and check it for mats, fleas, ticks etc. I discuss with the people how they want it styled. The dogs are generally much better behaved without the owner around. If the dog is not matted, it is so much easier. I have done dogs that had to be brushed for an hour and dematted before i did anything else. I had 100 + ticks to remove from another dog. I have seen dogs with fleas so bad the water ran red from flea dirt when i washed it. So after the mats are removed or loosened as needed, the dog is given a quick clip to get rid of a lot of the fur that would take more drying time. Ears are cleaned, nails clipped, anal glands cleaned if needed. Dog is washed, sometimes twice. Dog gets toweled and blow dried. Fur is reclipped, and fur on ears, face , feet trimmed. Bows and bandana applied. The thing is, when the owner shows up before you are done, the dog goes nuts and you really might as well give up working on them. Plus no one likes to rush. I used to clip one, bather washes and dries, then i clip another. Some places have all the dogs come in the morning, picked up in the afternoon. Works well for people that work all day.
I found most dogs had pretty good attitudes except about getting their nails cut. They can tell if you are in charge or easily bluffed.
