The Aloha Chicken Project

Here are some of the keepers (by the way it was an even 4 to 4 in terms of who to keep and who was culled.)

So, here are the keepers!

Lovely size and a nice temperament.

I adore this boy!
This fellow should go great with Sussex hens, too! Look at those yellow legs . . . and with visible mottling, he should produce 100% spotted babies when crossed to Sussex hens. You'd just have to cull the ones with stubby tails and keep all the babies with yellow legs.

the cheeto baby girl has found a new home and is a house chicken, LOL my friend loves her and calls her poopy

she also has 5 aloha culls from me that she got months ago, one grew into a big fat HUGE red hen. i bet she is close to the size of cheeto i've never seen a hen so big and she has a tiny white rooster. so, i am going to get some eggs from her this fall to incubate and see what we come up with. and her rooster is vicious. he attacks everyone including her. i wore jeans over there cuz i knew he had an attitude and i didnt back down from him so he broke a spur on my pantleg. i felt really bad for him, but we were trying to clean up her yard. he doesnt attack me so much anymore, i kinda stare him down and back out of the yard. never turn your back on a rooster i tell my kids, lol btw, i think he is so mean because she lives in an area of mesa with lots of stray cats and i bet he has to protect his flock.

i remember having 5 hatch from pen 4 and 2 from cheeto mix. lost one from pen 4. so maybe the little white cockerel is a cheeto baby. if his white does fade i'll assume cheeto heritage. and from what i can tell of my small batch these chicks are growing at the same rate. no one is bigger or smaller. and that black and white is just so adorable. all these chicks come right to you and let you scoop them up in your hands. they really like to be held against your chest. just so sweet.

lol, you've done good sommer.
i posted a picture of snickerdoodle - who now has bumblefoot and is causing all sorts of trouble in my bathroom - in the az forum and mahonri thinks she looks like his swedish flower hen.

POOPY! If I had one living in the house, that's what I'd call it, too! But my boyfriend has to draw the line somewhere, ha ha!

OMG - I'm really shocked that the roo is that aggressive! Well, let her know that we have a TON of half-Swedish, half-Aloha crosses and some of these roos look very promising! The ones with tons of white may cross well with an all-red hen. This roo has pink legs (bummer) but I can see him crossing just fabulously with New Hampshire Reds! He has tons of white and very little black, sorry I couldn't get a good pic of him, they are all in a cluster:

More Swedish x Aloha crosses:

Not the best pics, but everyone in there is sick and suffering right now! Some sort of creeping crud has been going around my flock. I treated all the adults, then went out of town for a week. The chicks were fine when I left, but a week later, they had caught it too. Darn. One died while I left but that's not horrible out of a batch of 30+. So they are being treated with Tylan, that super-strong antibiotic, which seemed to have worked amazingly well on the adults. (I say that because suddenly the appetite on the adult chickens has skyrocketed and no more sneezes that I can hear.) The chicks are already more perky today than they were yesterday, but there are still a couple that I'm somewhat worried about. I still have tomorrow and Sunday to treat them, then I go out of town again for a week, but this antibiotic is so strong a few days should be plenty.

I think normally they'd be able to shrug this off, but the heat is making things worse! 105-107 this week, which is kind of "cool" by Phoenix standards, ha ha.

Notinoz - and anyone else in AZ who may be interested - a fellow BYC'er has extra purebred Swedish Roos that need to be re-homed. So if anyone on here wants one, she needs to cull them soon. Drop me a line, she's supposed to email pics soon and I can forward those!
