I went out to the coop this morning where the Cemani are ... and thought there was an eggshell from a broken egg as well as a whole egg in the back of the coop (not in their usual nesting box area). So I went to the bird door and took out the two eggs on the right.
Center egg is .5 ounce
Right egg is 1.6 ounces, and the size that two of my hens lay routinely.
Left egg is 2.0 ounces and the size that my 3rd (largest) hen lays.

I asked the girls to produce the mouse who laid that egg,



but they declined!

Is this a common or occasional occurrence in chickens??? Anyone know?

My laying flock will occasionally throw a little round egg. They are marans and new Hampshires, I've tried hatching them with no luck.

This summer one of my hens...of the older layers...laid a large thin shelled egg with a small almost perfectly round egg inside..this round egg was much thicker shelled.

I kept it, letting it dry out to preserve it...sometimes the egg making is jammed up ..you'll even find eggs sometimes not just with two yolks...but without any yolk.

Europe. It will be unrelated to either Greenfire's (German), Toni-Marie Astin's (Netherlands) or Richard Jordan's (U.K.). I would not suggest anyone try to import chickens these days unless you want to spend an outrageous amount of money and bang your head against the wall made of government paperwork.

I may also bring in another line of Marsh Daisy. But since that breed was down to just one flock in the world, I am not sure that it would be helpful. All Marsh Daisy are going to be closely related, regardless of whether I import another line.

It depends upon the quality and originating line. For example, Greenfire line eggs are averaging about $75-100 each. Toni-Marie Astin around the same. Jordan Farms line were going for $75 each but I have not seen those at auction for a while. But I am giving away Mike Bean's Smithsonian eggs for free. So that makes them about $11-15 per dozen (which is the cost of shipping).
