The American Cemani Breeders Club...open forum

Randy may still sell hatching eggs...
but I am not sure...
From what I remember he is leaning towards live birds only.
But if I where you, I would want that from the horse's mouth.
I would pm him.

Also Randy's hatching eggs probably have a much better BLACK% than most...
but in general:

There is a real danger selling eggs to people who do not understand that 70-90%
will not be black and must be culled.

Customers want AND EXPECT every Cemani chick, from every egg, to be perfect black, all the time.
and that is just genetically impossible...

Folks also expect every egg to be viable even after the mailman slaps the package around for days.
This is also not possible.

On top of that, folks also think they all experts at hatching, and that they will always hatch every egg in their incubators.
Inexperienced folks don’t understand that the best of hatch rates for an expert is around 85-90% and that is after you hand carry the eggs from the coop to your incubator... Also, remember, that
85-90% drops fast and hard for those who are hatching for the first time.

This is why I have never and may never sell Cemani Hatching Eggs.
Unless:
My customers understand and except the cull rates,
My customers actually pick them up at my farm,
and my customers know what they are doing with their incubators.

Cemani "Hatching Egg" sales is way too much of a hassle!
with far too many chances of upsetting your customers.

I refuse to endanger my business with those kind of "disgruntled customer" odds.

However, the survival rate of 5 week olds in the mail is around 98%
and you can see and verify the quality of your birds before you sell and mail them.
Now, This is a different story entirely...
:thumbsup
I only sell eggs every once in a while. I usually just sell juvenile pairs or trio's when I have them.

Just know that all of the lines of Cemani's out there will throw chicks with faults, some worse than others. If someone that trying to sell eggs or birds tells you that theirs don't then beware. Also beware of the ones that are selling every dang chick that they hatch, ask if they are culling and so on. There are people out there that are just selling to make a fast buck and not even trying to improve the birds that they have or seeing what faults that they may have so they can improve them.

Just do your home work and ask around to see if someone knows anything about the person that you are wanting to buy from.

There is a good site on Facebook called good eggs bad eggs that you can check out some breeders and see what some people experience has been with them.

Very well said Randy - I agree 100%

It is so disheartening to look on EBay. It is very clear that 80%+ of the birds in those listing are nowhere NEAR being ready for sale.
They need of years of work before releasing to the public so prematurely. What is going to happen to America's Cemani if these culls are continued to be sold?

I'm sure it's also annoying to breeders such as Randy (and myself, except with Svarts) who are culling extensively at hatch for very minor faults while others are selling anything and everything. Listings every week for eggs and chicks which shouldn't be sold. I know at this point in my breeding program for svarts I am culling if a single toe is white. If others would cull extensively, the market wouldn't become saturated with poor quality birds, the price would remain high, sellers wouldn't be getting negative feedback, buyers wouldn't be losing money on sub par birds, and Americas stock would be SO much nicer.

Just my 2-cents.

I totally agree...

While a fast buck is always nice. (I like all Bucks)
Owning a strong, reliable, and ethical business is MUCH better...

Im in this for the Long Haul.
and that will take time, culling and selling young birds when that time comes.

I have been lurking around this thread for a few days. I recently purchased some eggs from a breeder who acquired their chicks from the Greenfire line. The eggs arrived today, in perfect condition. I fully understand the culling process to get the best quality chickens and whatever else that entails. I don't intend to breed and sell for years... But are there any cases in which people are breeding for health and stature over full color? Just curious to know if my less than black chicks should all be put on our dinner menu.

I've given up on the Ebay thing since, but I couldn't help but see something funny on my home page, with suggested sells and such (based on past purchases, I assume).

New Albino Ayam Cemani Mutation...

not gunna comment on the albino cemani...cause there is none...especially the bird that looks just like the one that you bought the previous birds from ebay...looks just like it ...just under a different ebay name...also there is a legend that there is a rare cemani....but the only thing that it has a white beak....if I can find the info on the web I will post where I read it...it is produced one out of a million birds ...but don't quote me on that...

$_57.JPG

its is the same bird....that the guy on selling chicken eggs was trying to sell here on byc...the same person you bought and got ripped off by...you can see and count the comb and see its exactly the same...same person as many of the other aliases he goes buy...this is nothing more then a hmong chicken....I can cut copy and past on how he says its a hmong chicken....
"No I'm white. One of the hens I sent in the pics is a Hmong hen. I didn't realize it was a pic if her. Let me updload some pics of my birds"
I don't normally put people out there but this individual clearly wants to cash in ...I asked him if he was Asian and he said no then I said that my girl is hmong and those look like hmong chickens and that's what he said...then he said he would upload some pics of his birds and never did...so be careful when buying these...there is very few people that have these birds....take your time before spending the money...you can get directly from gff these birds for 200 now and 100 for the honas..(my southern chicken friend I have not forgot about you and will get mine from you in due time more so after winter now...I don't wanna take the chance its freezing cold here...was 15 below the other day)

edited to add....if you are just the average person and email them you will get a different number of 500 for day old cemani at gff.....but if you already conducted business with them then the price is totally different....I was shocked at the huge price difference...but I no people that got that price...and then I emailed them and there response was different...so im shocked....and don't really no what to say...I do but I don't want to say it on here.....
