The American Paint Silkie

We have 4 of them. A cockerel and hopefully 2 pullets...plus a youngish chick that my daughter just HAD TO HAVE!!! Here are pics. Please ignore the blue foodcoloring on their wings. We were trying to mark them and got a little too much on them.

Because the thought is that the dominant white has "holes" in it (the paint gene that no one has identified yet) that allows the black to come through. If you use a recessive white, you will not get the spots. Recessive white is a "stronger" white gene and most American white silkies are recessive white.

Actually, Judy Lee is working on red paints as well. I'll post a pic of one of them when I get home.

If you breed paint x paint do the spots remain as plentiful and as dark or do they reduce over time as with splash x splash becoming washed out?

So with the dominant white with the holes, the chosen color for pairing will result in the color that fills the holes/makes the spots?
